It’s just so gorgeously eye-catching. This makes such a fun drink and there’s so much you can do with it 🤩. WHAT IS BLUE LATTE (BUTTERFLY PEA FLOWER LATTE)?
Blue latte (butterfly pea flower latte) is a delicious creamy drink made using butterfly pea flowers (jump down to read more about these flowers!), water, milk and sweetened condensed milk.
This latte looks beautiful and tastes beautiful too.
Creamy, rich milk with a hint of sweet delicate floral flowery flavors and the slightest sweetness from the sweetened condensed milk… Ah, bliss.
This blue butterfly tea latte is caffeine-free. That’s why this beautiful drink literally makes for such a great alternative to a latte or chai latte!
It’s also completely free of any artificial coloring. Oh yes, that gorgeous sky blue color is ALL natural!
There are so many different types of blue lattes out there.
Some blue lattes are made using blue spirulina, blue Curaçao syrup, blue artificial food coloring and sometimes even lavender flowers mixed with blue spirulina.
We are using blue butterfly pea flower in this recipe to make blue latte.
You can use dried blue butterfly pea flowers or even butterfly pea flower powder which is also called blue matcha.
So yes…
In this delicious blue latte recipe, dried blue butterfly pea flowers are first steeped in water to make butterfly pea flower tea.
If you’re using blue butterfly pea flower powder, you’ll need to mix it in really well so there aren’t any clumps of powder in your latte.
The blue butterfly pea flower tea is then poured over warm or cold milk that’s been mixed with just a little sweetened condensed milk.
The result is a beautiful aesthetic latte with the prettiest shades of blue and white.
You can then gently stir everything together and watch that beautiful magic happen… all those colors mixing so gorgeously together.
And that’s all, your butterfly tea latte is ready 💙✨!
Butterfly pea tea latte is a wonderful drink in literally every single way. It tastes delicious, looks beautiful and is really good for your health too.
Now the big question, what does butterfly pea tea latte taste like?
Before trying blue latte, I researched quite a bit about it and how it tastes.
I soon realized that different people say different things about the taste of this latte.
Some people say it has a woody flavor, some say it tastes of plants. Some also say it tastes like nothing… there are literally loads of different things I’ve heard about how blue latte tastes for different people.
I finally had it myself and I was a little nervous because I heard all kinds of things about its taste… I thought it’ll taste strange and I was like how even will a herby drink go well with milk… so many thoughts! And when I finally had it I was so pleasantly surprised.
This beverage tastes simple and so pretty… the flowers do work really well with that creamy milk to give you a drink that tastes gently floral with a hint of sweetness.
This latte doesn’t have a really strong taste at all and everything just works so well together to give you a beverage that looks beautiful and tastes really pretty too.
The flavor butterfly pea flowers add to the milk is so gentle that sometimes you may not even be able to taste it.
And it’s so cool how that happens.
I tried butterfly pea flower tea (the flowers just steeped in water) on its own and it tasted pretty strong. But once that blue tea mixes with the milk, the flavors blend really well together to give us a slightly floral latte with really delicate soft flavors.
So yes that’s basically how butterfly pea flower tastes. It tastes different on its own when it’s steeped in tea and it tastes different once it’s made into a latte.
All I’ll say is, try this pretty drink for yourself and don’t judge it before trying it.
That’s because different people have had different experiences with how this latte tastes and my experience has been amazing with it. So go on and give this pretty flower a try 😊.
When it comes to how blue latte smells, I smelled the dried flowers and powdered flowers both and felt they smelled a little like tea leaves (I love the smell of tea leaves!). After making the drink though, there’s not much of a smell at all.
Now, why is this drink so fascinating to me?
It is beautiful, yes but there’s more to it.
Zee and I once came across a fact stating that the color blue is not commonly seen out there in nature.
I was like whoa and when I went and read more about it, I understood that 1 in 10 plants have blue flowers.
Blue isn’t commonly seen in animals either.
So to have a blue latte in front of me made using a flower (that’s edible!) with one of the rarest colors in nature seems like a bit of a privilege. I’m fascinated!
Now, how did Zee and I come up with this recipe? Personal story time because that’s what The Buttery Fairytale is about (food memories ❤)!
You can share your stories with this recipe in the comments below too whether this is the first time you’re trying this recipe or if you’ve already had it multiple times before, I would love to hear all about it!
Once Zee and I understood how rare the color blue is, I was hit with intrigue.
I started researching on things that are blue in nature and I came across a blue flower called Butterfly Pea Flower that happened to be used in cooking.
I was like whoa, a blue flower used in cooking?
This particular flower is used to make drinks and I just had to try it.
We ordered some right away and came up with this recipe.
It’s a simple and delicious recipe that can be worked with in so many ways.
I’ve since tried so many variations of this blue latte but I didn’t want to confuse you guys.

Blue butterfly pea flowers are beautiful and the most beautiful part about these flowers is how delicate and gentle they taste once they’re mixed with milk. They have a hint of sweetness. We add in the sweetened condensed milk to bring that sweetness out just a little more.
Another really good thing about this latte drink? It’s caffeine-free. It’s a literal herbal drink that’s caffeine free that tastes good, looks beautiful with that pretty powder blue color and is wonderful for you too. Does it get any better than that?
And if you’re into beautifying your drink, we’re here for it!
I was never into layering my lattes or trying to make them look beautiful but after making this blue latte, I got into it just a little bit!

WHAT IS BUTTERFLY PEA FLOWER?
That’s a pretty good question because we’ve been going on and on about this flower but haven’t actually discussed about it and what it is!
I mean yes, it is a flower. But let’s delve in a little deeper.
Butterfly pea flowers hold the scientific name Clitoria ternatea and belong to the family Fabaceae.
They are also called by different names around the world such as Asian pigeonwings, blue pea, butterfly pea, blue tea flowers, Cordofan pea, Darwin pea or blue bellvine.
This pretty plant is found in parts of South Asia and Southeast Asia.
These flowers are used in Southeast Asian countries as natural food color to lend a pretty blue color to rice dishes and desserts cooked there.
The pigment in these flowers is a beautiful deep bluish purple… It’s incredible how much color they hold!
These gorgeous flowers can be used as food color AND they can also be used as a natural dye to dye clothes! SUPER COOL 💙.
I’ve also read how in Burmese and Thai cuisines, butterfly pea flowers are dipped in some butter and then fried.
It’s super interesting how this flower is used and eaten in so many different ways!
Apparently, butterfly pea flower tea has been brewed for literal centuries (how incredible is that?) in the area it’s indigenous to and has very recently been introduced to the rest of the world.
Oh and these blue flowers can also lead to super cool color effects when their pH level changes. They possess gorgeous color-changing properties.
If you add in something acidic to butterfly pea flower tea, the blue tea turns to a gorgeous pink! It’s so magical, I have no words for how beautiful that effect looks 💖.
I researched on why this happens and understood that butterfly pea flowers contain a pigment called anthocyanin that gives them that beautiful blue color.
Now, anthocyanin acts as something called an acid-base indicator. This means that any change in the pH level leads to it changing its color too.
Because of this, if you add something like lemon juice to your butterfly pea tea, the pH level of the tea will change leading the color to change to pink. That’s because lemon juice is super acidic. The butterfly pea tea will go from basic blue to acidic pink.
Please keep in mind that we’re talking about butterfly pea tea here and not butterfly pea latte. Butterfly tea is made when you steep your blue butterfly pea flowers in some hot water or when you dissolve your blue pea flower powder in some hot water without adding any milk to it.
Coming back to the flowers now…
As we’ve discussed already, butterfly pea flowers are a beautiful rich blue and that’s because they are rich in anthocyanin compounds called ternatins.
Anthocyanins are what give berries and grapes and many other bluish purplish reddish colored vegetables, flowers, and fruits their color.
Anthocyanins are antioxidants that contain anti-inflammatory compounds and also offer protection against cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes.
Antioxidants help protect our bodies from free radicals. Free radicals can damage cells in the body.
I’ll not give too many scientific terms here and I’ll keep it simple for us but this plant also contains many other antioxidants.
Some of these antioxidants are known for their cancer-fighting properties and some have effects that are anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiviral. It’s said to help the immune system. Sounds like such a Super-Flower ⭐!
I’ve read that butterfly pea flowers may help boost cognitive function too.
Butterfly pea flower is also known to be really good for your skin and hair. It’s also said to be good for the eyes, aids in digestion, is a good treatment for respiratory issues, aids in reproductive health and helps in calming and relaxing too.
I haven’t even gotten into much detail about how good butterfly pea flowers are for health. I’ve literally barely touched the surface.
This is just such an incredible plant and you can read more about it and its benefits if you prefer.
It’s just amazing how this flower is so… multi-tasking!
It can be enjoyed as herbal tea, can be made into a latte, can be used when making rice dishes or sweets or puddings, can be used to make so many different drinks out there because of its fascinating color as well as color-changing properties, can literally be used as food color in so many different dishes… and to top it all up it has so many wonderful health benefits too.
Thank you for existing, butterfly pea flowers!
INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS FOR BLUE LATTE RECIPE (WITH BUTTERFLY PEA)
For exact ingredient measurements, please scroll down to the Recipe Card.
- Dried butterfly pea flowers OR Butterfly pea flower powder (aka Blue matcha) – The most important ingredient here! You can choose to use dried whole butterfly pea flowers or you can also use blue butterfly pea powder which is made from dried butterfly pea flowers. I prefer using the dried whole flowers because they’re pretty easy to use. You just leave them to steep in some warm water for a couple of minutes and that’s it, your blue butterfly pea flower tea is ready. They have a more gentle and delicate flavor too that I prefer. The butterfly pea powder on the other hand needs to be whisked really well in warm water so there are no clumps left and I sometimes felt no matter how much I whisked the powder, my latte still remained gritty. The powder also has a bit of a stronger flavor compared to the flowers that I’m not a big fan of.
- Warm water- The water needs to be almost boiling but not boiling. It’s pretty important to use warm water here because your dried whole butterfly pea flowers will steep much faster in warm water than in cold water. The same goes for the butterfly pea flower powder. Warm water will help the powder dissolve faster as you’re whisking it so there are no clumps of powder in your latte.
- Milk- Milk works so well with butterfly pea flowers. I had no idea until I made this gorgeous milky blue latte for the first time ever. It makes our drink creamy, rich and absolutely delicious. It balances so well with the butterfly pea flowers and gives us a drink that’s rich but not overwhelming in its taste. Everything delicately comes together to give us a latte that’s just right. I’ve used full-fat milk here. You can use any milk of your preference here. You can go for plant-based milks too if you want to make a plant-based latte. I’ve heard butterfly pea flowers go really well with many different types of milk out there.
- Sweetened condensed milk- As I’ve mentioned before, butterfly pea flowers taste slightly floral and have a hint of sweetness to them. I’ve found adding in just a little sweetened condensed milk works wonders in enhancing that slight sweetness that already is present in these flowers and adds to the creaminess of the latte. The amount of sweetened condensed milk we add doesn’t make the latte too sweet, it just enhances the sweetness of the flowers but if you’d like to make it sweeter, go ahead and add as much sweetened condensed milk as you like. You can also use any other sweetener you prefer such as honey or sugar. You can make a simple syrup with sugar and water too. You can also use maple syrup if you’d like to make this a plant-based latte.
Other Ingredients:
- Foamed milk– Go ahead and foam some of the milk and add a nice foamy milk layer on top of your finished blue latte drink for some prettiness and milky foamy fun. This is optional.
- Ice cubes (in the iced version)- If you’re making some iced blue latte, ice cubes help in a big way to make those gorgeous layers and make the beverage more refreshing than ever ❤!

RECIPE & DIET VARIATIONS YOU CAN TRY
This blue latte recipe is a versatile lil fella and there are so many different things you can do to change it up. I love that about this drink!
Here are a few ideas, go ahead and have fun!
- You can mix your blue butterfly pea powder or dried blue butterfly pea flowers with other edible flowers such as chamomile, hibiscus or maybe even lavender and make a healthy mixed flower latte. You can maybe also add some food-grade rose water or perhaps even some rose syrup for a hint of pretty rosiness? You can then also garnish your latte with those flowers on top to make a pretty mixed flowery drink!
- There’s a common question that comes in whenever we talk about using blue butterfly pea flowers and that is, should we use dried blue butterfly pea flowers or blue butterfly pea flower powder? The good news here is you can use both and our blue latte drink recipe here tells you how to work with both too. If you ask me what I prefer though, I’ll tell you guys I prefer using dried whole butterfly pea flowers. While trying to come up with this delicious blue milk recipe, I tried using both dried flowers as well as powder and I felt the dried flowers had a really gentle flavor. The powder on the other hand had a bit of an intense flavor I wasn’t a big fan of. The flowers need to be steeped so you may need to wait for some time BUT the powder needs to be whisked really well in warm water otherwise you may end up with clumps of powder in your latte. I felt no matter how much I whisked, I usually ended up with a gritty latte. The flowers gave me a smooth latte without me even trying! So yep, that’s my choice but you can try both and see what works best for you!
- This is a gentle creamy latte with delicate hints of floral and sweet flavors and I find whipped cream works really well with it. There are so many different ways you can garnish it and whipped cream is definitely one of my favorites! I find it adds so much more creaminess to this creamy milky latte. On days you feel like giving yourself a bit of a treat, go ahead and top your beautiful butterfly pea tea latte with some whipped cream and enjoy all that blue creamy goodness ❤.
- Would you like a creamier butterfly pea flower milk tea? Go ahead and use half and half instead of just milk. That creamy texture of heavy cream and milk mixed together will make your butterfly pea flower matcha latte taste rich and sooo good.
- You can also have this butterfly pea flower matcha latte hot or cold. I’ve tried warm butterfly pea latte AND cold butterfly pea latte and I loved both equally! It’s amazing how butterfly pea flower works so well hot as well as cold. It’s all up to YOU. You can have some nice hot butterfly pea latte all comfy and warm or you can have some iced butterfly pea latte for a fresh touch of refreshment.
- Go ahead and make a gorgeous mermaid latte! All you need to do is make some green matcha tea in a little water separately from the blue butterfly pea flower tea. Now, you’ll have green tea and blue tea (two matchas! Such a matcha delight ❤). Follow the rest of the steps as given in the recipe below. First, add the blue tea to the milk and then add the green tea gently and watch those beautiful liquids swirl together creating the most beautiful effect ever! Make a fairytale come true in front of you by making the colors of a mermaid appear. You’ll feel like you’re having a drink right from under the sea 😉! Make sure you use a transparent glass to watch those fun effects.
- You can try using a different type of milk. Go ahead and use plant-based milk to make your blue latte such as oat milk, cashew milk, almond milk, macadamia milk… I heard vanilla soy milk works well too. You can also use coconut milk and top your blue latte with a thick top layer of coconut cream. You can also experiment making your blue latte with lactose-free milk.
- You can also use a different sweetener. There are so many types of sweeteners out there and each sweetener will add its own distinct taste to your blue latte. Go ahead and experiment and see what you prefer! I personally love the gentle sweetness and creaminess that sweetened condensed milk adds to our blue latte but you can go ahead and try maple syrup, honey, brown sugar, white sugar, simple syrup (simple syrup is made with sugar and water), coconut sugar, agave or whatever you will feel works best…
- In need of a boost? Or just love coffee too much? I understand! Go ahead and add some coffee of your choice into this drink for a delicious butterfly blue pea flower coffee. I’ve heard of people adding in a shot of espresso and really liking how it works with this drink. You can do the same with tea of your choice and make some butterfly pea flower tea or even butterfly pea flower milk chai.
- You can also make some blue butterfly pea dalgona coffee. If you really love coffee and would like to try something new, go ahead and make this blue butterfly pea tea latte as given in the recipe here. Then whip some coffee up and top your butterfly pea latte with it. There you go, some delicious blue butterfly pea tea latte dalgona coffee, the perfect mix of coffee and herbal tea!
- For some nice caramelly smoothness and richness, go ahead and add some caramel syrup to your blue latte. You can pour it down the sides of your glass to create a pretty effect before making your latte. You can also pour some right at the bottom of your glass so you can get bits of caramel (oh, I LOVE this) while you sip on your blue butterfly pea flower tea latte AND you can top your latte up with some whipped cream and drizzle some caramel syrup on top too. Sounds so delish, I’m going and making this right now 😍! You can try doing the same thing with chocolate syrup too maybe!
- So, butterfly pea is a really interesting flower. That’s because when you leave it in water to steep, the water turns a gorgeous blue. The blue can vary from being a sparkly blue to a dark almost purple blue. And then, when you mix the blue tea with milk, it turns a pretty baby blue. Now, if you prefer not using milk at all and would like to just have blue butterfly pea flower tea as it is, as perhaps a herbal tea, you can have it that way too. Just have the tea as it is once you’re done steeping those flowers in the water. To add more flavor to your blue tea, you can turn it into a lemon butterfly pea flower tea by squeezing in a lemon. Once you squeeze in a lemon, watch that magic happen 🤩. Thanks to blue butterfly pea flower’s color-changing properties, the blue will start to turn into a gorgeous pink tea. This is because of the change in its pH level. The addition of an acidic ingredient will cause a change in the tea’s pH level and it’s incredible to watch. That squeeze of a lemon changes the entire color of the butterfly pea tea! You can further add in any sweetener of your choice (such as perhaps honey) and perhaps even mint leaves or ginger to add a refreshing touch to this beverage for some extra flavor. You can have it hot or cold, however you prefer. Fun Fact: Hibiscus changes the color of butterfly pea tea too, so you can mix those two together and make some butterfly pea and hibiscus tea for that pretty pink as well! You can also add some edible glitter and have even more fun!
- If you’re planning on making some butterfly pea tea like above, you can have some fun by making some lemon juice or lime juice ice cubes. Add these lemon juice cubes to your blue tea and watch that color change beautifully. You can also make ice cubes out of butterfly pea tea and then add them to your lemonade and watch all those different colors develop, all in a single glass. Ah, gorgeous! How cool does color-changing lemonade sound?! You can also make ice cubes with these flowers or their petals in the ice cubes!
- You can pour your favorite soda or some carbonated water into some butterfly pea flower tea for some butterfly pea tea soda. You can also pour some carbonated water or your favorite soda (preferably one which has no color if you’re into showing off that pretty blue) into some butterfly pea lemonade to make a delicious butterfly pea flower lime soda! Sooo refreshing 💖.
- This drink doesn’t really smell of anything. The butterfly pea flowers and butterfly pea powder smell a little like tea leaves to me (and I adore the smell of tea leaves ❤) but once you mix everything together and make this latte drink, there’s no tea leaves aroma left at all :(. So yes, this butterfly pea flower tea latte smells very mellow and delicate… almost of nothing. Maybe a little of milk and sweetened condensed milk but that’s about it. If you would like to add a touch of vanilla aroma and a hint of flavor to your drink, you can go ahead and add a tiny drop of vanilla extract or a little vanilla powder to your latte.
- Don’t have a ceremonial whisk? Is dissolving your butterfly pea flower powder completely in water getting a little annoying? Or would you just rather not go through that entire ordeal? A quick and easy way to make your blue latte all nice and smooth if you’re using butterfly pea flower powder and it’s difficult to get that blue matcha to dissolve in the water, is to use a blender and blend the butterfly pea flower powder and water until the powder is completely dissolved in the water. You can also just go ahead and blend the powder, water and milk together in a blender and pour it over ice cubes to make some iced blue latte. Only thing is you won’t get layers in your blue milk iced latte but that’s okay if you’re not into that and hey, it’s the delishness and ease of doing things that’s important!
- Feeling a tad bit indulgent or just feel like adding a touch of fun to your butterfly pea latte? Go ahead and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or any ice cream you prefer (coffee sounds good too!) over your iced blue latte. Vanilla works pretty well with the flavors of this latte and some ice cream will just make it even more fun than it already is. Mmm, a scoop of vanilla ice cream over some blue milk iced latte so good, gonna go have it right now!
- When you’re making some hot blue latte, you can add in some warm spices such as ground cinnamon, ground clove, ground cardamom, ground nutmeg, ground ginger, ground allspice… You can add any, all or even most of these spices (in their whole or ground versions) while you’re heating the milk so the milk is infused with the flavors of those spices. You can maybe use some chai masala powder that’ll have most of these spices mixed in it too. You can also mix in your blue latte powder with the spices you prefer the most and store that powder in an air-tight container and use it within about 6 months. When you’re storing these spices with the blue pea powder, make sure you dissolve the powder completely in some warm water and then add the hot milk to it. If you use butterfly pea flowers to make your latte, go ahead and just only mix the spices together so you can add them in and have them ready whenever you’re making this latte. I prefer these warm cozy spices when I’m making hot blue latte but you can add them to your iced blue latte too, if you prefer.
- To make this butterfly pea tea latte even prettier than it already is, go ahead and turn it into a sky latte by adding some clouds in. Yep, you can go ahead and add some pretty clouds to the sides of your glass to make this drink look like the sky with pretty clouds floating in it. You can use melted white chocolate, marshmallow fluff, marshmallow creme or even yogurt. Go ahead and mix your blue tea and milk beforehand and then pour in that beautiful magical blue latte into the glass and watch those white clouds look like they’re literally floating in your blue latte. Ah, gorgeous ✨.
- You can also make a dreamy fluffy cloud latte. Just top your blue latte drink with a big dollop of frothed milk or whipped cream or both and enjoy that fluffiness and feeling of biting into a cloud. YUM YUM YUM ❤, You can check this picture out below to see how adorable it looks.
- If you’d like to make your butterfly pea tea latte darker, just go ahead and add a few extra flowers or just a little more powder when you’re making the butterfly pea tea in the beginning. You can add a little more because it doesn’t reallyyy change the taste much but if you add too much, it may alter the taste and make your latte taste stronger.
- Butterfly pea flowers are such great flowers. They add so much color, don’t have a really strong taste at all and also hold so many health benefits. You can go ahead and add a pop of color and loads of health benefits to your mocktails, slushies, milkshakes and smoothies (whoa, a butterfly pea smoothie, pretty 😍) by adding some steeped butterfly pea tea, butterfly pea flowers or blue pea powder in. Enjoy that pretty blue as you sip on your favorite drink!
- You can also make a butterfly pea flower popsicle! There are so many different ways to make it. You can make it with some butterfly pea tea with your favorite sweetener like maybe honey? You can also make it with butterfly pea tea mixed with sweetened condensed milk! Or even with butterfly pea tea mixed with sweetened condensed milk and milk or cream for a creamy milky popsicle. For exact ingredient measurements and instructions without photos, please scroll down to the Recipe Card.
Please keep in mind that I go into lots of detail in all my recipes so you get to know all the super important tips and tricks when it comes to making a particular recipe. I always want you to make the BEST of whatever you’re cooking ❤.
Hey you, this blue butterfly latte recipe for both iced and hot versions has been written using dried blue pea flowers but never fear! We have given you information alongside on what you can do if you’re using blue pea flower powder.
Also, your glass or cup measurements are pretty important so if you know how much liquid your glass or cup will hold, that’ll be super awesome.
If not, it’s still okay because we’ll give you guys estimates in the Recipe Card!
The Iced Version (blue milk iced latte, this drink has the prettiest names! 😍) is right below, you can click here to jump below to the Hot Version ☕.
ICED BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA LATTE VERSION 🧊
STEP 1: START MAKING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEA
Fill a bowl with warm water that’s not boiling hot but is almost as hot.
Sprinkle in those pretty dried flowers and give them a gentle stir.
Cover the bowl and let the flowers steep for 7 to 8 minutes.
Jump to the next step while you’re waiting for your flowers to steep.
If you’re using blue butterfly pea flower powder (a.k.a. blue matcha)- add the powder to the warm water and whisk it really well. If you don’t have a bamboo matcha whisk, don’t worry. You can always use a small regular whisk (Psst, you can also use a blender). Just make sure you whisk it really well so the butterfly pea flower powder dissolves completely or else you may feel your latte is filled with clumps of powder or is really gritty. Once that blue butterfly pea powder completely dissolves in water, it’s called blue tea.
STEP 2: GET THE MILK MIXTURE READY
In another glass, pour in the milk.
Add the sweetened condensed milk.
And mix them well together.
This is super important because if you don’t mix your milk and sweetened condensed milk right now, the sweetened condensed milk won’t be able to mix with anything really once it’s added over the ice.
You can also pour in some more sweetened condensed milk over the ice so it reaches the bottom of the glass first. This way, you can get bits and pieces of delicious sweetened condensed milk while you sip on your blue latte!
STEP 3: FINISH PREPARING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEA
Let’s get back to our blue butterfly pea flower water. If you’re using blue pea powder, skip this step because you’ve already made your blue tea in the first step.
Once 7 to 8 minutes are up, press those flowers nicely using a spoon or however you can to get more of that pretty color out.
Filter, throw the flowers and set it aside.
You’ll have some gorgeous deep blue color water by now. That’s your butterfly pea flower tea.
If the blue tea is really warm, wait until it’s cooled down before moving to the next step.
STEP 4: PREPARE YOUR ICED BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA LATTE
Take your preferred glass and add in the ice cubes until they fill up 3/4th of the glass.
Ice cubes add this touch of refreshment to our iced butterfly pea latte and help us get those gorgeous layers.
Then pour in the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture until it reaches 3/4th of the glass as well.
Now, gently and slowly pour in your blue pea tea.
The slower you are while pouring your blue tea in, the better your layers will be.
Of course, if you aren’t into getting layers, you can pour in the blue tea as fast as you’d like.
And there you have it, your iced blue latte is ready!
You can froth some milk using a milk frother and add it as an additional layer on top of your latte if you prefer for some more milky creamy goodness.
You can add some whipped cream or ice cream on top too. Check out our Variations Section above for more ideas!
You can also sprinkle some dried butterfly pea flowers or butterfly pea flower powder on top as garnish. You can check out our Different Ways to Style Your Latte Section below for more ideas.
And now, go ahead and enjoy your beautiful refreshing iced drink. This blue milk iced latte is delicious 💙!

HOT BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA LATTE VERSION ☕
STEP 1: START MAKING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEA
Fill a bowl with warm water (not boiling hot but almost there).
Sprinkle in those pretty dried blue flowers and give them a gentle stir.
Cover the bowl and let the flowers steep for 7 to 8 minutes.
Move to the next step while you’re waiting for your flowers to steep.
If you’re using blue butterfly pea flower powder (a.k.a. blue matcha)- Add the powder to the warm water and whisk it as well as you can. Don’t worry if you don’t have a bamboo matcha whisk. You can use a regular small whisk in its place (you can use a blender too!). Make sure you whisk it really well so the butterfly pea flower powder dissolves completely in the water or else your latte may be gritty or filled with clumps of powder. Once that blue butterfly pea powder completely dissolves in water, it’s called blue tea.
STEP 2: GET THE MILK MIXTURE READY
Pour your milk into a saucepan.
Gently heat it over medium to medium-low heat until it starts to steam and comes to a gentle boil. Make sure you occasionally stir the milk while this happens.
You can use a microwave to heat your milk too.
Keep an eye on your milk.
Once the milk is heated through nicely, pour it into your cup.
Now add in the sweetened condensed milk
And mix it well with the hot milk.
STEP 3: FINISH PREPARING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEA
Let’s get back to our blue butterfly pea flower water. If you’re using blue pea powder, skip this step because you have already made your blue tea in the first step.
Once 7 to 8 minutes are up, press those flowers nicely using a spoon or however you can to get as much of that pretty color out as possible.
Filter the water. You don’t need the flowers now and you can throw them away.
You’ll have some gorgeous deep blue color water by now. That’s your butterfly pea flower tea.
Set that beautiful blue tea aside.
STEP 4: PREPARE YOUR HOT BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA LATTE
Now, gently pour in your blue butterfly pea tea over the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture in your cup and give it a good stir.
And there you go, your warm comforting cup of butterfly pea latte is ready ❤!
Just cozy up with it and allow that gorgeous hot drink to envelop you in goodness and make you feel relaxed and calm. Ah ☕…
And hey, you can also froth some milk with a milk frother and add it as an additional layer on top of your latte if you prefer some airy cloudiness in your latte as you sip on it.
You can make some blue foam too by steeping a few blue pea flowers or dissolving some blue pea powder in just a little milk until it turns blue. Then froth the blue milk till you get some pretty blue milk foam and add it on top of your hot latte.
You can also sprinkle some dried butterfly pea flowers or butterfly pea flower powder on top of your latte as garnish.
You can beautify it however you like!

4 DIFFERENT WAYS TO MAKE YOUR BLUE LATTE LOOK GORGEOUS
Is that the ocean? Is that the sky? Is that a CLOUD in the sky?! No, it’s just the different ways I’ve decorated this blue latte recipe 🤩.
- Stunning Layered Iced Butterfly Pea Blue Latte
- Magical Ice Cubes Butterfly Blue Pea Latte
- Pretty Blue Butterfly Pea Cloud Latte
- Mystical Blue Pea Ocean Latte
Here’s where fairytales come to life.
I’m gonna teach you some incredibly awesome tricks on making your blue latte look prettier.
HEY!
I was never into layering or decorating my drinks.
Like, I always felt layered drinks looked beautiful but they were pretty intimidating.
And all that changed (well, at least some of it) when I learned to make iced blue latte.
I realized beautifying your drinks doesn’t have to be tough at all.
You can get a pretty-looking drink without much effort and I’ll share a few of those methods here.
Blue latte is already gorgeous on its own with that pretty pastel blue color but beautifying a drink a little more is always fun. And blue latte makes for such a fun drink to work with too! So let’s go!
We’ll be telling you guys what to do but make sure you have the main ingredients ready (everything has been explained in detail in the Instructions Section above and in the Recipe Card below):
- Blue tea- by steeping the dried butterfly pea flowers in warm water or by dissolving butterfly pea flower powder in warm water
- Milk mixture- by mixing milk and sweetened condensed milk really well together
Keep in mind that in all of these ideas, you can top your blue latte with dried butterfly pea flowers, butterfly pea flower powder, milk foam or with whatever you prefer (whipped cream? Ice cream!).
Oh and hey, if you have any ideas on beautifying this incredible-looking latte, let us know in the comments. We would LOVE to try it your way!
STUNNING LAYERED ICED BUTTERFLY PEA BLUE LATTE
This is our classic layered version of the iced blue latte.
Getting a layered latte is super simple.
I always thought those layers were really difficult to get but after just a few tries, I understood what to do.
So, take the glass you’re using.
Fill it up with ice cubes until they fill up 3/4th of the glass. Ice cubes help us get those layers so don’t skip out on them.
Then gently pour in your milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture until it fills up 3/4th of the glass too.
And now, slowly pour in your blue tea.
And there you have it, your gorgeous layered blue latte!
How gorgeous does that look, huh ❤?
You can also top it up some milk foam.
You can froth some plain milk for white foam or you can get some blue foam too by steeping a few blue pea flowers or dissolving a little blue pea powder in just a little milk until it turns blue. Then froth the blue milk till you get some pretty blue milk foam and add it on top of your hot latte.
Here we have added just a little blue milk foam.
Gently mix everything together before drinking it and watch it all whirl and swirl together so beautifully.
You can add in some edible glitter too to make it look more mystical 🤩.
MAGICAL ICE CUBES BUTTERFLY BLUE PEA LATTE
We’ll first make blue tea ice cubes.
Make some blue tea depending on how many ice cubes you want to make.
Pour the blue tea into a small pitcher or pourer (or anything you can pour it easily out of).
Now take your ice cube tray and fill it with blue tea.
If you want different gradients of blue, you can add some water in accordingly.
You can get dark blue ice cubes with just blue tea.
You can also make the color of the ice cubes a little lighter by filling two or as many blocks of the ice tray with 3/4th blue tea and 1/4th water.
It’s also possible to make the color of your ice cubes lighter by filling two or as many blocks of the ice tray with 1/2 blue tea and 1/2 water.
You can make the color of the ice cubes even lighter by filling two or more blocks of the ice tray with 1/4th blue tea and 3/4th water.
You can also make some ice cubes with just plain water as well to add to the effect of the colored ice.
I don’t know if I’m doing a good job explaining this but I hope you get it 😊.
I’ve made a mixture of different gradients of blue to add to the prettiness of this drink.
Now go ahead and freeze those ice cubes.
In the picture below, I’ve made ice cubes using both dried butterfly pea flowers (on the left) as well as butterfly pea flower powder (on the right).
The powder gives my blue tea a really dark color compared to the flowers, as you can see. You can use both and see which color you prefer your ice cubes to be.
Before starting to make this drink, make your milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture and blue tea.
Once the ice cubes are frozen through, take a glass and start adding your ice cubes in.
I’ve added the lightest ice cubes at the bottom and darkest at the top (I’ve tried to go for that gradient effect as you can see in the picture below 🧊)
Once that’s done, you can pour some sweetened condensed milk down the sides of your glass to just add to a little decor 😉.
Now pour in the milk mixture.
And then gently pour in the blue tea.
And there you go! The prettiest looking colored ice latte ❤.
And just look how pretty that sweetened condensed milk looks too!
It literally looks like a Little Mermaid latte right from under the sea with all those beautiful colors and can actually make for such a pretty drink for a mermaid theme party.
You can freeze some fish-shaped ice cubes and add them in too for some more fun!
Ah, those look like stunning crystal islands. I LOVE it ❤!
A few more ideas I’ve got to beautify this drink even more are:
- You can make ice cubes with whole butterfly pea flowers or their petals in them.
- You can also make opaque white ice cubes with milk.
- You can maybe even steep some blue pea flowers or dissolve some blue pea powder in just a little milk until it turns blue, froth it and add it on top of your colored ice latte. You can also use plain white milk foam and it can resemble sea foam if you’re going for that ocean theme.
PRETTY BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA CLOUD LATTE
Making this cloud latte is pretty simple and looks incredibly gorgeous and SO adorable.
Make sure you have a milk frother. I have a handheld one and it worked really well.
Go ahead and make your blue latte first.
You can make it hot or iced, however you prefer.
Transfer your blue tea and milk mixture (milk+sweetened condensed milk) and mix everything together until your drink turns that beautiful baby blue.
In another glass or cup, take some milk and start frothing it until it’s all frothed nice and fluffy!
Now, gently start placing your frothed milk over your baby blue latte.
When you put that white foam on top of your drink, it’s like you’re placing a white cloud over it. Go ahead and add your little cloud in the sky 💖.
You can add as much froth as you like.
I added a massive cloud of froth to my blue latte. It just looks so cute WHAT do I do ❤?!
And there it is, your blue butterfly pea cloud latte!
It looks like the sky in a cup ❤.
Omg, this reminds me of a Smurf. Guess we can call it a Smurf Latte too now!
You can also sprinkle some butterfly pea flower blue powder on top of that white foam cloud to make it look like the galaxy in a glass. GORGEOUS!
MYSTICAL BLUE PEA OCEAN LATTE
This is more of a visual fun effect, you guys.
Here, we pour the blue tea into the glass first.
We then pour the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture and oh my goodness, it’s gorgeous seeing everything mix together.
It’s like literal waves in the ocean as your pour in the milk mixture. I love it!
It’s like the ocean in a cup… like drinking the ocean. An ocean latte 🤩!
Everything mixes together really fast in this method and the effect doesn’t last very long at all so if you’ve got guests over, you need to do this in front of them. It makes for such a fun experience.
Make sure you use a transparent glass here.
Take your glass and place some ice cubes in it.
Now, pour in your blue tea until the glass is almost full.
Because we’re using more blue tea than milk here, it may taste stronger. Make sure you add lots of sweetened condensed milk (or whatever sweetener you prefer) in your milk mixture especially if you’re making this drink for kids or if you know you or your guests don’t prefer the strong taste of blue pea tea.
Then take your milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture and start gently pouring it in and watch that gorgeous magic happen ✨!
All those pretty effects, I have no words!
Just look at all those swirls and milk ribbons, how incredible is that huh ❤?
The prettiness of these effects can make anyone go in awe.
You can entertain the children if it’s a kids’ party to imagine having the power of drinking the entire ocean or sky from a glass. Then go ahead and make this magic happen right in front of them and hear all those OOHS and AAHS of awe. They’ll love it! Get them in on the magic as well by letting them pour the milk and make the drink come to life like a fairytale!
The effects of this gorgeous drink will leave adults at a party mesmerized too. I don’t even know what to say, the drink speaks for itself 💖.
TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST BUTTERFLY PEA BLUE LATTE RECIPE EVER
This blue latte recipe is incredibly simple. Like, really really REALLY simple.
It’s literally ready in just a few minutes! That’s how simple it is.
But there are still some tips you can follow to make this blue butterfly latte recipe even simpler (!). Let’s discuss them below:
- I suggest you guys use a transparent glass or mug when you’re making this blue latte so you can see that stunning blue while you sip on your drink. It’ll also help you see those layers if you’re making some blue milk iced latte (the iced version of this drink 💙).
- A small idea to get measurements right is to pour the milk into the glass or cup you’re gonna use beforehand until the glass is 3/4th full. Then, if you’re making hot blue latte, heat that same amount of milk over the stove or in the microwave. You can do this for iced blue latte too once you’ve added ice to fill about 3/4th of the glass. Then fill in the glass until it’s 3/4th full with the milk mixture as well and then pour in the blue tea.
- Always serve this blue butterfly pea flower latte immediately, especially when you’re serving it cold because we don’t want those ice cubes melting. This is necessary for when you’re making some iced blue latte and are going for those layers like I’ve shown in the recipe here.
- If you’re serving your blue iced latte with those gorgeous layers, I suggest you guys serve it without stirring everything together. You can then enjoy that pretty layered latte while sipping on it and give it a gentle stir on your own, and if you have guests over, you can give them the pleasure of stirring their own blue latte and watch that magic happen of everything mixing so beautifully together.
- Ice melts pretty fast. When you’re making iced blue latte, make sure you wait until your blue tea cools down completely before making the latte. You don’t want that ice starting to melt because of the hot tea leaving you with a lukewarm drink.
- If you’re using butterfly pea flower powder, make sure you get that blue powder to dissolve completely in the water. To do this, you can use a matcha whisk and if you don’t have one, you can always use a small whisk too. This is super important because if you don’t make sure that powder dissolves completely in the water, you may get clumps of powder in your drink and/or have your drink be pretty gritty. That doesn’t taste good at all. So whisk that pretty blue powder well you guys.
- If you don’t own a matcha whisk, and you’re using butterfly pea flower powder, whisking that blue matcha until all that powder dissolves can be pretty tough. You can use a small whisk but I sometimes noticed my drink still being a little gritty no matter how much I whisked it. What you can then do is go ahead and take a mason jar, add the butterfly pea flower powder and water to it, seal that lid really well and shake it nice and good until all that blue powder dissolves completely. You can also go ahead and use a blender and blend the water and powder until the powder completely dissolves. If you don’t mind having an iced latte without the layers, you can go ahead and add the milk along and blend everything together.
- If you’re using butterfly pea flowers, make sure you strain that blue tea well or else you may end up with a piece of that blue flower stuck in your teeth leaving you with blue teeth. We’re speaking from experience and had a big blue smile while drinking our tea when we made this mistake.
- When you’re making some hot blue latte, you can add in some warm spices for an even deeper warmer flavor such as ground cinnamon, ground clove, ground cardamom, ground nutmeg, ground ginger, ground allspice… You can add any, all or even some of these spices (whole or ground) while you’re heating the milk so the milk is infused with the flavors of those spices. You can maybe also use some chai masala powder that’ll have most of these spices mixed in it too. You can also mix your butterfly pea powder with the spices you prefer the most and store that powder in an air-tight container so you always have a ready mix of these powders with your blue butterfly pea flower mixed in on hand. Go ahead and use it within 6 months… If you use butterfly pea flowers to make your latte, go ahead and just mix only the spices together and store them in an air-tight container so you have them ready whenever you’re making this blue spice latte. I prefer these warm cozy spices when I’m making hot blue latte but you can add them to your iced blue latte too, if you prefer.
- If you’d like to make your butterfly pea tea latte darker, just add a few extra flowers or just a little more powder when you’re making the butterfly pea tea in the beginning. You can add a little more because it doesn’t reallyyy change the taste much but if you add too much, it may alter the taste and make your latte taste stronger, so be careful.
- If you’re planning on serving this gorgeous blue latte drink at a party, and would like to save on some time, go ahead and make the blue tea beforehand (by steeping the flowers or dissolving the powder in water) and keep it in the fridge. This will keep your blue tea ready and on hand to add to the milk mixture later on. You also won’t need to wait for your tea to cool down before adding it to the ice and milk mixture if you’re making an iced latte. If you’re making a warm blue latte, just heat your blue tea a little before mixing it with the hot milk
- If you’re going for layering your blue milk latte, make sure you add the ice to your glass first. Then slowly pour the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture into the glass. Then take your blue tea and slowly pour it into the glass. And there you have it, two gorgeous layers in your blue latte ❤! For more ideas on how to layer your blue drink and make it look *oh so pretty!*, check the Different Ways to Style Your Latte Section above.
- To make your blue latte look even more interesting, you can take a little milk and steep some blue butterfly pea flowers in it, or dissolve some blue butterfly pea flower powder in it. Once the milk turns blue and pretty, discard the flowers if you’ve used them and then froth the milk using a milk frother for some pretty blue froth. Top your blue milk with it and make it look even more fascinating than it already does.
- While making some creamy hot blue butterfly pea flower latte, keep a close check on your milk if you’re heating it over the stove. Sounds like a simple point but it’s pretty important. That’s because milk can easily boil and overflow, like literally before you know it. It’s sort of hilarious how it does that. Like it’s super calm one second and the next it’s all over your stove. So yep, keep a close eye on your milk and the moment it starts to boil or comes to a light boil, take it off the heat and pour it into your cup.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS FOR BUTTERFLY PEA BLUE LATTE RECIPE
This drink is sooo pretty.
I know I’ve been talking bout how good it looks but come on, how can you not?!
The best part about our blue latte here is it speaks for itself. It looks good and tastes good.
If you’ve already gone through our Different Ways to Style Your Latte Section above, you may know what to do to serve this blue latte drink in different ways making it look all kinds of pretty ❤.
But a few more serving suggestions to change things up a bit can never hurt. So, here we go!
- You can serve your iced milky blue tea latte or your creamy hot blue latte as we’ve given here. For the blue milk iced latte, we’ve just filled the glass with ice cubes, poured in the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture and then gently poured the steeped blue tea over everything. Following this method will give you that gorgeous milk and blue butterfly pea tea layers and that looks stunning ❤. You can then top it up with whatever toppings you prefer. For the hot blue latte, just go ahead and mix the warm blue tea and the hot milk mixture together in a cup and serve it with whatever toppings you prefer.
- Always serve this blue butterfly pea flower latte immediately, especially when you’re serving it cold. Don’t wait for too long before serving it as the ice cubes may thin out your blue latte making it a little watery. I would also suggest you guys to serve it without stirring everything together if you’re going for those layers when making it iced like I’ve shown how to in the recipe here. You can give yourself or your guests the chance to gush at the prettiness of it and then mix it and watch that gorgeous magic happen.
- Speaking about toppings, you can froth some milk, top your blue latte with it and enjoy that delicious frothy airy goodness while you sip on that pretty latte. To add some extra fun, heat a little milk and leave some butterfly pea flowers in it to steep for about 8 to 10 minutes. Then squeeze those flowers out to get the rest of that gorgeous blue color and then discard them. Then go ahead and froth that blue milk to get some blue milk foam and top your blue latte with that pretty blue milk foam and enjoy it as an extra delight 💙! For a blue galaxy latte, you can take a pinch of blue pea flower powder and sprinkle it over the white or blue milk foam… It looks absolutely incredible and so pretty and mystical ❤…
- In the mood for some creamy gentle sweetness in your latte? Go ahead and top your blue latte with some whipped cream! Butterfly pea latte is a gentle creamy latte with delicate hints of floral and sweet flavors. There are so many different delicious toppings you can use and whipped cream is one of my favorites! I find it works super well with this creamy milky latte and adds so much more creaminess to it too. On days you feel like giving yourself a bit of a treat, go ahead and top your beautiful butterfly pea tea latte with some whipped cream and enjoy all that blue creamy goodness. Ah.
- If you’re not in the mood for layers in your latte or just can’t get them right, don’t worry. Just stir the drink and serve it as its pretty baby blue self. It looks gorgeous nonetheless.
- For some nice caramelly smoothness and richness, go ahead and add some caramel syrup to make this a delicious blue caramel latte. Top your beautiful blue latte with some silky smooth caramel syrup or top it up with some whipped cream and top that whipped cream with ribbons of caramel syrup 😍. You can also pour some caramel syrup down the sides of your glass to create a pretty effect before making your latte. You can pour some right at the bottom so you can get bits of caramel (oh, I LOVE this) while you sip on your blue milk tea. Sounds delish, I’m gonna go make this right now! You can try doing the same thing with chocolate syrup too.
Ah, gorgeous ✨
- You can serve your hot blue latte with your favorite cookies. This creamy drink tastes almost like sweet warm milk and there are loads of cookies out there that’ll go really well with it.

You can use 8 to 10 butterfly pea flowers or a little over 1/4th teaspoon of butterfly pea powder per cup of liquid (water or milk or both) to make a delicious butterfly pea tea or butterfly pea latte.
You can always add more or less butterfly pea flower powder according to your taste once you understand the flavors of this drink.
What does a blue latte or butterfly pea milk tea taste like?
Butterfly pea latte tastes creamy, delicate, floral (in the prettiest way!), slightly sweet and so pretty.
The butterfly blue pea tea on its own tastes slightly woody, earthy-ish, floral, a little herby and very slightly sweet. It somehow works incredibly well with milk and most of these flavors are toned down quite a bit once the blue tea mixes with milk.
I’ve heard so many people out there saying blue pea latte doesn’t taste really good and has an herby and woody flavor.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but I suggest YOU go ahead and try this drink yourself first and then make an opinion because in my opinion, those flavors are toned down quite a bit once the blue tea is mixed with milk 😊.
What is blue latte made of? What is in a blue butterfly tea latte?
Blue latte is made with blue butterfly pea flowers, your choice of milk and your choice of sweetener. That’s it!
The beauty of blue latte is that you can use ingredients of your choice.
You can use your favorite milk and your favorite sweetener.
You can also add in a few more ingredients as you please such as whipped cream, ice cream… caramel syrup! It’s all up to you.
You can check out the Variations Section above for more ideas.
What is a Smurf latte?
A smurf latte is a pretty blue-colored latte with some white foam (or whipped cream, vanilla ice cream…) on top!
You can check this pic out above to understand how it looks.
This is just one of the names a blue butterfly pea latte is called by.
It’s also called mermaid latte (especially once you add some green matcha in!), blue latte, blue moon latte, bantha milk, blue milk, moon milk, blue matcha latte… Ah, such pretty names ❤.
Why does butterfly pea tea change color?
Butterfly pea tea changes color and that’s super awesome.
I researched on why it does that and understood that butterfly pea flowers contain a pigment called anthocyanin that gives them that beautiful blue color. This color is present in blueberries and grapes.
Now, anthocyanin acts as something called an acid-base indicator. This means that any change in its pH level leads to it changing its color too.
Because of this, if you add something like lemon juice to your butterfly pea tea, the pH level of the tea will change leading the color to change to pink. That’s because lemon juice is super acidic. The butterfly pea tea will change from basic blue to acidic pink.
Please keep in mind that we’re talking about butterfly pea tea here and not butterfly pea latte. Butterfly tea is made when you steep your blue butterfly pea flowers in some hot water or when you dissolve your blue pea flower powder in some hot water without adding any milk to it.
What is butterfly pea lemonade?
Butterfly pea lemonade is butterfly pea tea with some lemon juice or lime juice added to it with any optional sweetener of your choice.
Butterfly pea lemonade is another variation of butterfly pea tea.
Here, instead of mixing in some creamy milk to the butterfly pea flower tea to make a latte, we add some lemon juice or lime juice to the existing butterfly pea tea and have it as a refreshing tangy drink.
You can play around so much with this drink. You can add in some ice to give a refreshing touch to your drink or even some soda water.
You can once again use your choice of sweetener and enjoy this pretty drink.
The best part? Go ahead and pour the butterfly pea tea into glasses and then squeeze some lemon juice over the tea to watch some incredible prettiness happening. The deep blue color of the tea starts to change to a pretty pink because of the change in pH levels.
It’s such a cool drink to serve to kids and at parties too!
Do butterfly pea flowers have caffeine?
Butterfly pea flowers don’t contain any caffeine at all. That’s why this beautiful drink literally makes such a great alternative to a latte or chai!
What are the benefits of butterfly pea latte?
Butterfly pea latte has loads of benefits.
The blue butterfly pea flower itself does so much good stuff for us. Let’s talk about it a little.
Butterfly pea flowers are a beautiful rich blue color and that’s because they are rich in anthocyanin compounds called ternatins.
Anthocyanins are what give berries and grapes and many other bluish purplish reddish colored vegetables, flowers, and fruits their color.
Anthocyanins are antioxidants and it is said that they offer anti-inflammatory effects and also offer protection against cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes.
I’ll not give too many scientific terms here and I’ll keep it simple for all of us but this plant also contains many other powerful antioxidants. Some of these antioxidants are known for their cancer-fighting properties and some have effects that are anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiviral.
Butterfly pea flower is also known to be really good for your skin and hair. It’s said to be good for the eyes too.
It also aids in digestion, is a good treatment for respiratory issues, aids in reproductive health and helps in making you feel calm and relaxed too.
I haven’t even gotten into much detail about how good butterfly pea flowers are for health. I’ve barely touched the surface.
This is just such an incredible plant and you can delve in deeper and read more about it and its benefits if you prefer.
Add to that the benefits of the milk you’re using to make this gorgeous drink and you have one beautiful healthy latte.
Do butterfly pea latte and butterfly pea tea taste better cold or hot?
Whether butterfly pea latte and butterfly pea tea taste better hot or cold is entirely up to YOU.
So we have butterfly pea latte here which is basically butterfly pea tea with milk added to it. And then we have butterfly pea tea which is butterfly pea flowers steeped in water or butterfly pea flower powder dissolved in water.
HOT:
- Butterfly pea latte can be had warm as a comforting drink before bed or as a pick me up in the morning. It makes for such a lovely drink during winters too, all cozied up on the couch while watching your favorite show, ah ❤. You can add in some warm spices such as ground cinnamon, ground clove, ground cardamom, ground nutmeg, ground ginger, ground allspice, etc… You can add any, all or most of these spices (in their whole or ground form) while you’re heating the milk so the milk is infused with the flavors of those spices. You can maybe use some chai masala powder that’ll have most of these spices mixed in it too.
- Butterfly pea tea can be had nice and warm as well. Just drizzle in some honey or squeeze in some lemon juice or add in a little ginger or mint (or both) for some nice warm minty gingery lemon honey butterfly pea tea and enjoy all those flavors. Because butterfly pea flowers don’t contain any caffeine at all, this drink also makes for a lovely bedtime drink or just a comforting tea while you’re maybe working? You can have it in the morning too as a wake up drink. Oh and squeezing in a lemon will give you a gorgeous pink colored tea too!
COLD:
- Iced butterfly pea latte is one of the most refreshing drinks ever, especially on a hot sunny day. These make such good cold drinks for those fun summer days ❤. The butterfly pea flower tea mixes in so well with milk to give us a creamy but light flavor and mixed in with some ice cubes? It makes the most amazing refreshing drink and it gives us some stunning milk and blue tea layers too!
- And iced butterfly pea tea makes for a really refreshing drink too. Just go ahead and drizzle some honey and squeeze a lemon into your iced butterfly tea and watch that gorgeous color changing magic happen. You can add in maybe some mint? Or ginger? Or both! Go ahead and sip on that pink tangy and sweet refreshing drink and enjoy.
So there you have it, butterfly pea latte and butterfly pea tea BOTH can be had hot or cold and which one’s better is entirely your preference. Go ahead and try these drinks both ways and see what way you prefer best!
What flavors go well with butterfly pea tea?
Butterfly pea tea is basically blue butterfly pea flowers steeped in water or butterfly pea flower powder dissolved in water.
There are so many flavors that go well with butterfly pea tea and you can choose your own favorites once you understand the flavor of this tea as well as whether you like it hot or cold.
Some personal favorites are honey (for a touch of light sweetness. Honey goes so well with blue pea flowers! You can always use a sweetener of your choice), lemon (for a delicious tang as well as a gorgeous change of color!), mint (for a kick of refreshment when you’re making some iced blue tea) and sometimes even ginger (especially when you’re making a warm butterfly pea tea. The comfort ginger gives is ❤).
Blue Butterfly Pea Latte vs Blue Spirulina Latte (Blue Algae Latte).
Blue butterfly pea flower latte (also called blue matcha latte) and blue spirulina latte (also called blue algae latte) can be confused for each other sometimes because of that gorgeous blue color they both share.
But both these lattes can be made literally the same way with the only difference being… You guessed it! Blue butterfly flowers or powder are used to make blue butterfly pea latte and blue spirulina powder is used to make blue spirulina latte.
One is a flower (butterfly pea flowers) and the other an algae, more specifically, blue-green algae (blue spirulina).
I find blue butterfly pea latte tastes creamy, delicate, floral and very slightly sweet. Different people describe it differently though with some saying the latte (not the tea on its own) has a herby and woody flavor. You should try it for yourself and see how it tastes for you.
I haven’t tried a blue spirulina latte but I’ve heard blue spirulina doesn’t have much of a taste. To help with this, you can add other ingredients to enhance the taste of your latte.
Can this enchanting blue latte recipe (super easy with butterfly pea) be made ahead of time? How do I store it and how long will it last in the fridge?
When it comes to this drink, it’s best to have it fresh but yes, you CAN make the blue tea ahead of time.
This is if you’ve got a party or something and want to skip out on the waiting time of steeping the flowers or dissolving the powder in water.
Don’t make a latte of it. Just make the blue tea and store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It will last for about 2 to 3 days.
Whenever you need to make your latte, take the blue tea out from the fridge and mix it in nice and fresh with the milk ✨. If you’re making a hot blue latte, make sure you heat your blue tea before mixing it with the milk.

Instructions
Iced Blue Butterfly Pea Latte 🧊
- Hey you, this recipe has been written using dried blue pea flowers but I’ve written what you can do if you’re using blue pea flower powder alongside. Also, your glass or cup measurements are pretty important so if you know how much liquid your glass or cup holds, that’s awesome. If not, it’s still okay as I’ve given you tips on what you can do.START MAKING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEAFill a bowl with warm ½ cup or 120 ml water that’s not boiling hot but is almost as hot. Now, sprinkle in those pretty 12 to 14 dried Butterfly pea flowers.Give them a gentle stir. Then cover the bowl and let the flowers steep for 7 to 8 minutes.Move to the next step while you’re waiting for your flowers to steep. If you’re using blue butterfly pea flower powder- Add the blue flower powder to the warm water and whisk it really well. Don’t worry if you don’t have a bamboo matcha whisk. You can use a small regular whisk instead (you can also use a blender). Just make sure you whisk everything really well so the butterfly pea flower powder dissolves completely or else your latte may be gritty or filled with clumps of powder or both. Once that blue butterfly pea powder completely dissolves in water, it's called blue tea.
- GET THE MILK MIXTURE READYIn another glass, pour in ¾ cup or 170 ml milk and 1 tbsp sweetened condensed milk and mix them really well together. This is pretty important because the sweetened condensed milk won’t be able to mix with anything at all once it’s added over the ice.You can also pour in some more sweetened condensed milk over the ice so it reaches the bottom of the glass first. This way, you can get bits and pieces of delicious sweetened condensed milk while you sip on your blue latte!
- FINISH PREPARING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEAComing back to our blue butterfly pea flower water. If you’re using blue pea powder, skip this step, because you’ve already made your blue tea in the first step.Once 7 to 8 minutes are up, press those flowers nicely using a spoon or however you can to get more of that stunning color out. You’ll have some gorgeous deep blue color water by now. That’s your butterfly pea flower tea.Filter the blue tea, throw the flowers and set aside. If the tea is really warm, wait until it’s cooled down before moving to the next step.
- PREPARE YOUR ICED BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA BLUE LATTETake your preferred glass and add in the ice cubes until they fill up 3/4th of the glass. Ice cubes add this gorgeous cool kick to our iced butterfly pea latte and hey, it’s called iced for a reason too!Ice also helps you get those pretty layers. Now pour in the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture until it reaches 3/4th of the glass as well. And then, gently and slowly pour in your blue pea tea.The slower you are while pouring your blue tea in, the better your layers will be. Of course. if you aren’t into getting layers, you can pour in the blue tea as fast as you’d like. And there you have it, your beautiful iced blue latte is ready 💖!You can froth some milk and add it as an additional layer on top of your latte if you prefer, for some more milky creamy goodness. You can also add some whipped cream or ice cream on top too. Check out our Variations Section for more ideas! You can also sprinkle some dried butterfly pea flowers or butterfly pea flower powder on top as garnish too. Go ahead and check out our Different Ways to Style Your Latte Section for more ideas. And now, go ahead and enjoy your gorgeous iced drink ❤.
Hot Blue Butterfly Pea Latte ☕
- START MAKING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEAFill a bowl with ¼ cup or 50 ml water, not boiling hot but almost there.Add in 8 to 10 dried Butterfly pea flowers and give them a gentle stir.Cover the bowl and let the flowers steep for 7 to 8 minutes.Move to the next step while you’re waiting for your flowers to steep. If you’re using blue butterfly pea flower powder- Add the powder to the warm water and whisk it as well as you can. If you don’t have a bamboo matcha whisk, don’t worry. Just use a small regular whisk instead (you can use a blender too). You don’t want a latte that’s gritty or filled with clumps of powder so make sure you whisk really well so the butterfly pea flower powder dissolves completely in the water. Once that blue butterfly pea powder dissolves completely, it's called blue tea.
- GET THE MILK MIXTURE READYPour ¾ cup or 150 ml milk into a saucepan. Then, heat your milk over medium to medium-low heat until it starts to steam and comes to a gentle boil. Make sure you occasionally stir the milk while it’s heating. You can use a microwave to heat your milk too.Keep an eye on your milk and don’t leave it at any time.Once the milk is heated through nicely, pour it into your cup. Now add in ½ tbsp sweetened condensed milk and mix it well with the hot milk until they mix really well together.
- FINISH PREPARING YOUR BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA TEAComing back to our blue butterfly pea flower water…If you’re using blue pea powder, skip this step because you have already made your blue tea in the first step.Once 7 to 8 minutes are up, press those flowers nice and good using a spoon, or however you can, to get as much of that pretty color out as possible.Filter the blue water. You don’t need the flowers now and you can throw them away. You’ll have some gorgeous deep blue color water by now. That’s your butterfly pea flower tea.Set that beautiful blue tea aside.
- PREPARE YOUR HOT BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA LATTEGently pour in your blue butterfly pea tea over the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture in your cup.Give it a good stir. And there you have it, your hot comforting cup of butterfly pea latte is ready ❤!Just cozy up with it and allow that beautiful hot drink to envelop you in goodness and make you feel relaxed and calm. Ah ☕…Hey you, you can froth some milk and add it as an additional layer on top of your latte if you prefer some airy cloudy fun in your latte while you sip on it.You can also add some blue foam by steeping a few blue pea flowers or dissolving a little blue pea powder in some milk until it turns blue. Then froth the blue milk till you get some pretty blue milk foam and add it on top of your hot latte. You can even sprinkle some dried butterfly pea flowers or butterfly pea flower powder on top of your latte as garnish too. You can beautify it however you like!Go ahead and check out our

Notes ✍🏼
- I suggest you guys use a transparent glass or mug when you’re making this blue latte so you can see that stunning blue while you sip on your drink. It’ll also help you see those layers if you’re making an iced blue latte.
Fill in the glass with the milk mixture until it’s 3/4th full and then pour in the blue tea.
- Always serve this blue butterfly pea flower latte immediately, especially when you’re serving it cold because we don’t want those ice cubes melting and potentially turning your latte watery. This is necessary for when you’re making some iced blue latte and are going for those layers like I’ve shown in the recipe here.
- Ice melts pretty fast so when you’re making iced blue latte, make sure you wait until your blue tea cools down completely before making the latte. You don’t want that ice starting to melt because of the hot tea leaving you with a lukewarm drink.
- If you’re serving your blue iced latte with those gorgeous layers, I suggest you guys serve it without stirring everything together. You can then enjoy that pretty layered latte while sipping on it and give it a mix on your own and if you have guests over, you can give them the pleasure of stirring their own blue latte and watch that gorgeousness happen.
- If you’re using butterfly pea flower powder, make sure you dissolve that blue powder completely in the water. This is super important because if you don’t make sure that powder dissolves completely in the water, you may get clumps of powder in your drink and have your drink be pretty gritty. You can use a bamboo whisk or a small regular whisk here.
- If you don’t own a matcha whisk, and you’re using butterfly pea flower powder, whisking that blue matcha until all that powder dissolves can be pretty tough. You can use a small whisk but I noticed my drink sometimes being a little gritty no matter how much I whisked it. What you can do is add the butterfly pea flower powder and water to a mason jar, seal that lid really well and shake it nice and good until all that blue pea powder dissolves completely. You can also use a blender and blend the water and powder until the powder completely dissolves.
- When making some hot blue latte, you can add in some warm spices for a gorgeous deep warm flavor such as ground cinnamon, ground clove, ground cardamom, ground nutmeg, ground ginger… You can add any, all or even some of these spices (whole or ground) while you’re heating the milk so the milk is infused with the flavors of those spices. If you use butterfly pea flowers to make your latte, go ahead and mix only the spices together and store them in an air-tight container so you can add them to the milk and have them ready whenever you’re making this latte. I prefer these warm cozy spices when I’m making hot blue latte but you can add them to your iced blue latte too, if you prefer.
- If you’d like a darker blue butterfly pea tea latte, go ahead and add a few extra flowers or just a little more powder when you’re making the butterfly pea tea in the beginning. Keep in mind that adding a little more powder or a few more flowers doesn’t really change the taste much but if you add too much, it may alter the taste and make your latte taste stronger.
- If you’re planning on serving this gorgeous blue latte drink at a party, and would like to save on some time, go ahead and make the blue tea beforehand (by steeping the flowers or dissolving the powder) and keep it in the fridge. This will keep your blue tea ready and on hand to add to the milk mixture later on. You also won’t need to wait for your tea to cool down before adding it to the ice and milk mixture if you’re making an iced latte.
- If you’re going for layering your blue milk latte, make sure you add the ice cubes to your glass first and then slowly pour the milk and sweetened condensed milk mixture into the glass. Then pour your blue tea slowly into the glass. And there you have it, two gorgeous layers in your blue latte ❤! For more ideas on how to layer your blue drink and make it look oh so pretty, check the Different Ways to Style Your Latte Section above.
- To make your blue latte look even more interesting, you can steep some blue butterfly pea flowers or dissolve some blue butterfly pea flower powder in a little milk. Once the milk turns blue and pretty, discard the flowers if you used them and then froth the milk for some gorgeous blue froth. Top your blue milk with it and make it look even more fascinating than it already does.
- Keep a close check on your milk if you’re heating it over the stove while making your creamy hot blue butterfly pea flower latte. I know it sounds like a simple point but it’s pretty important. That’s because milk can easily boil and overflow, like literally before you know it. So yes, keep a close eye on your milk and the moment it starts to lightly boil, take it off the heat and pour it into your cup.
- Go ahead and mix your blue butterfly pea powder or dried blue butterfly pea flowers with other edible flowers such as chamomile, hibiscus… perhaps even lavender and make a healthy and interesting mixed flower latte. You can also add some food-grade rose water or perhaps even some rose syrup for a hint of pretty rosiness? You can then also garnish your latte with those flowers on top to make a gorgeous mixed flowery drink!
- Should you use dried blue butterfly pea flowers or blue butterfly pea flower powder? Pretty good question! The good news here is you can use both and our butterfly pea latte recipe here tells you how to work with both too. They both have their positives. I personally prefer using dried whole butterfly pea flowers. I tried using both dried flowers as well as powder and felt the dried flowers were really gentle and had a delicate flavor. The flowers gave me a smooth latte without me even trying that hard and they had such a delicate flavor too! So yep, that’s my opinion but you can try both and see what works best for you!
- This is a gentle creamy latte with delicate sweet and floral hints and whipped cream works really well with those flavors. I find whipped cream adds so much more creaminess to this latte too. On days you feel like giving yourself a bit of a treat, go ahead and top your gorgeous butterfly pea tea latte with some whipped cream and enjoy all that blue creamy goodness ❤
- Would love a creamier butterfly pea flower tea latte? Go ahead and use half and half instead of just milk. That creamy texture of heavy cream and milk mixed together will make your blue pea flower latte taste rich and sooo good!
- You can have this butterfly pea flower matcha latte hot or cold. I’ve tried warm butterfly pea latte AND cold butterfly pea latte and I loved both! It’s so cool how butterfly pea flower latte works so well hot as well as cold. It’s all up to YOU. You can have some nice hot butterfly pea latte all comfy and warm or you can have some iced butterfly pea latte for a touch of refreshment.
- You can also make a gorgeous mermaid latte! All you need to do is make some green matcha tea in a little water separately from the blue butterfly pea flower tea. You’ll then have green tea and blue tea (two matchas! Such a matcha delight!). Follow the rest of the steps given in the recipe. First add the blue tea to the milk and then add the green tea gently and then watch all those stunning liquids swirl together creating the most mesmerizing effect ever! You’ll feel like you’re having a drink right from under the sea 😉!
- You can use a different type of milk too. Go ahead and use a plant-based milk to make your blue latte such as oat milk, cashew milk, almond milk, macadamia milk… I heard vanilla soy milk works well too. You can also use coconut milk and top your blue latte with a thick top layer of coconut cream. You can also experiment making your blue latte with lactose free milk. You can try making this drink with whatever milk you prefer!
- You can use a different sweetener as well. There are so many different ones out there and each sweetener will add its own distinct taste to your blue latte. Go ahead and experiment and see what you prefer! I personally love the gentle sweetness and creaminess that sweetened condensed milk adds to our blue latte but you can go ahead and try maple syrup, honey, brown sugar, white sugar, simple syrup (simple syrup is made with sugar and water), coconut sugar, agave…! There are so many different sweeteners you can try out there.
- Need a little boost? Or just love coffee too much? I understand! Go ahead and add some coffee of your choice into this drink for a delicious butterfly blue pea flower coffee. You can experiment with a shot of espresso! You can do the same with tea of your choice and make some butterfly pea flower milk chai latte.
- You can also make some blue butterfly pea dalgona coffee. If you love coffee and would like to try something new, go ahead and make this blue butterfly pea tea latte as given in the recipe here. Then whip up some coffee and top your butterfly pea latte with it. There you go, some delicious blue butterfly pea tea latte dalgona coffee, the perfect mix of coffee and herbal tea and so much fun too!
- For some nice caramelly smoothness and richness, go ahead and add some caramel syrup to your blue latte. You can pour it down the sides of your glass to create a pretty effect before making your latte. You can also pour some right at the bottom so you can get bits of caramel (oh, I LOVE this) while you sip on your blue butterfly pea flower tea latte AND you can top it up with some whipped cream and drizzle some caramel syrup on top too. You can try doing the same thing with chocolate syrup maybe.
- If you prefer not using milk at all and would like to just have blue butterfly pea flower tea as it is, as perhaps an herbal tea, you can have it that way too. Just have the tea once you’re done steeping those flowers in the water or once you’re done dissolving the powder in water. To add more flavor to your blue tea, you can turn it into a lemon butterfly pea flower tea by squeezing in a lemon. Once you squeeze in a lemon, the blue color of the tea will start turning into a gorgeous pinkish-purple tea thanks to the change in its pH level. The addition of an acidic ingredient will cause a change in the tea’s pH level and it’s just so incredible to watch. That squeeze of a lemon changes the entire color of the butterfly pea tea! You can also add in any sweetener of your choice and perhaps even mint leaves or ginger to add a refreshing touch to this drink for some extra flavor. You can have it hot or cold, however you prefer. Fun Fact: hibiscus changes the color of butterfly pea tea too, so you can mix those two together and make some butterfly pea and hibiscus tea for that pretty pink as well! You can add some edible glitter in too and have more fun!
- If you’re planning on making some butterfly pea tea like above, you can have some fun by making some lemon juice or lime juice ice cubes. Add those ice cubes to your blue tea and watch that color change slowly and beautifully. You can also make ice cubes out of butterfly pea tea and then add them to your lemonade and watch all those different colors develop, all in a single glass. Ah, gorgeous! How cool does color changing butterfly pea lemonade sound?! You can also freeze ice cubes with butterfly pea flowers or their petals in them for a pretty look!
- You can pour in your favorite soda or some carbonated water into some butterfly pea flower tea for some butterfly pea tea soda. You can also pour in some carbonated water or your favorite soda into some butterfly pea lemonade to make a delicious butterfly pea flower lime soda! Sooo good ❤.
- Butterfly pea flower tea latte smells very mellow and delicate… almost of nothing. Maybe a little of milk and sweetened condensed milk but that’s about it. If you would like to add a touch of vanilla aroma and a hint of flavor to your drink, you can go ahead and add a tiny drop of vanilla extract to your latte.
- If dissolving your butterfly pea flower powder completely in water is getting a little annoying and you don’t have a ceremonial whisk to help out, a quick and easy way to make your blue latte all nice and smooth if you’re using butterfly pea flower powder is to use a blender and blend the powder and water until the powder is completely dissolved in the water.
- Feeling a tad bit indulgent or just feel like adding a touch of fun to your butterfly pea latte? Go ahead and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or any ice cream you prefer (coffee ice cream sounds good too!) over your iced blue latte. Vanilla works really well with the flavors of this latte and it’ll just make it even more fun than it already is.
You can also mix in your blue latte powder with the spices you prefer the most and store that powder in an air-tight container (use it within about 6 months). If you use butterfly pea flowers to make your latte, go ahead and just mix the spices together and keep them in an air-tight container separately so you can add them in and have them ready whenever you’re making this latte. I prefer these warm cozy spices when I’m making hot blue latte but you can add them to your iced blue latte too, if you prefer.
- To make this butterfly pea tea latte even prettier than it already is, go ahead and turn it into a sky latte by adding some clouds in. Go ahead and add some pretty clouds to the sides of your glass to make this drink look like the sky with pretty clouds floating in it. You can use melted white chocolate, marshmallow fluff, marshmallow creme or even yogurt. Make sure you mix your blue tea and milk beforehand and then pour in that beautiful magical blue latte into the glass and watch those white clouds look like they’re literally floating in your blue latte. Ah, such a stunner ✨.
- You can also make a dreamy fluffy cloud latte. Just go ahead and top your blue latte drink with a big dollop of frothed milk or whipped cream or both and enjoy that fluffiness and feeling of biting into a cloud. YUM YUM YUM ❤. You can check this picture out to see how adorable it looks.
- If you’d like a darker butterfly pea tea latte, just go ahead and add a few extra flowers or just a little more powder when you’re making the butterfly pea tea in the beginning. Adding a little more doesn’t reallyyy change the taste much but if you add too much, it may alter the taste and make your latte taste stronger.
- You can go ahead and add a pop of color and loads of health benefits to your mocktails, slushies, milkshakes and smoothies (whoa, butterfly pea smoothie, pretty 🤩) by adding some steeped blue pea tea, butterfly pea flowers or butterfly pea powder in.
Or even with butterfly pea tea mixed with sweetened condensed milk and milk for a creamy milky popsicle. Ah ❤.
- You can make some fun blue butterfly pea boba tea latte too! Just add in some boba pearls to your blue milk latte and enjoy.

Haha I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
This is a beautiful drink. Tastes pleasant, an herby floral flavor I don’t know how to describe the taste but it’s different and I like it. And so blue, the pleasure is in watching it as you drink it. Thank you
That’s very well described, Ashley ❤. I completely agree too, it’s such a pretty drink. Thank you!
This blue latte recipe is such a unique concept, I love how it can be prepared in so many different ways. Great job on showing us how to go about making it in different styles as well I could not find that information anywhere else. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻
Thank you so much for your kind words, Jeffrey!
A friend shared this recipe with me asking me to give it a try and I’m so glad I did. The milk and condensed milk make the drink so creamy and delicious. I could’ve never imagined a herbal flowery drink tasting so good with milk! I’m blown away.
Yay a huge thank you to your friend 💃🏻! And I agree with you, Shanice. The first time I made this drink, I was like hmmm will the herby taste be super strong but it wasn’t and just worked so well with the milk. Thank you so much Shanice, I’m so glad you enjoyed this pretty blue drink!
By far the best looking tea I have ever made
I used coconut milk and maple syrup to make a vegan blue latte recipe. It was nothing less than amazing!!! I made the iced version of this blue latte recipe.
Oh wow Tobias, I’m sure your vegan blue latte tasted absolutely delicious and super refreshing too! I’m so glad you enjoyed this pretty drink 😊.
Thank you, Steve! I agree 😊.
Such an interesting drink. I love my blue latte nice and hot. Feels so healthy too! Good stuff.
Ah, warm blue latte is so relaxing. I’m glad you like it, Becca!
Skipped out on the milk and made myself an iced butterfly pea tea with dried butterfly pea flowers and one of your suggested variations using lemon juice. Just a squeeze of lemon turned the blue tea from a beautiful blue color to a beautiful purple mermaid color. Watching the color change was magical 😍
Oh Megan, that must’ve been the prettiest sight everrr ❤!
This blue latte recipe was so easy to make. I had no idea what butterfly pea flower was before this… I’m so glad to have tried it thanks to you. Cheers!
I’m so happy to hear that, Cindy. Thank you so much ❤!
