WHY YOU WILL LOVE THIS RECIPE
Light crispy waffles with the most incredible fluffy texture…
These are those waffles. The most perfect waffles in the whole world.
That incredible crisp leading to the most delicious gentle flavor and the fluffiest texture ever.
These waffles really are something special.
They’re the best and I’m in love.
❤
I could’ve never imagined dairy-free waffles being this amazing. I mean, I was a little worried while developing this recipe.
Where would the richness and flavor come from without milk and butter? Would water and vegetable oil be able to handle it all?
Surprisingly yes! Water and vegetable oil work as pretty good substitutes here and that’s awesome.
I gobbled up 4 mini waffles on the spot while testing this great recipe. Without maple syrup or any toppings. That’s just how good these waffles are!
Wanna know a few more reasons why you’ll LOVE this recipe? Here we go!
- These crispy waffles are made with really simple ingredients (you probably have them at home already). I wanted to keep things super simple for you so I used water instead of plant-based milks or any other ingredients because you may or may not have them at home!
- These are the best waffles EVER. They’re delicious yes but they’re also ready super quick and are SO easy to make too! Just mix those wet ingredients and dry ingredients together and you’ve got your waffle batter (best part is it takes just a couple of minutes, literally only 5-10 minutes!). Then go ahead and start making your waffles. You literally need no special extra processes or equipment except for a waffle maker (you can use a regular waffle maker, a mini waffle maker or a Belgian waffle maker or Belgian waffle iron, it’s all fine!).
- I don’t want you thinking these waffles are just okay because they don’t have milk and butter. They taste just as good as regular waffles with milk and butter in them and even Belgian waffles. They’re the BEST, okay? They hold their own, you probably won’t even notice there’s no milk and butter in them and how awesome is that? Just airy fluffy dairy-free goodness! I add an extra egg yolk for richness and moisture plus extra fats. You won’t miss the milk and butter, heck, you won’t even notice they’re gone.
- You can use these waffles and make a meal in a bajillion different ways. Top it up with your favorite toppings, add your favorite add ins to the batter before making it or make it savory. This great recipe works every single way just like waffles with milk and butter would.
You can share your stories with this recipe in the comments below too whether this is the first time you’re trying this recipe or if you’ve already had it multiple times before, I would love to hear all about it!

INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS FOR THIS WAFFLE RECIPE WITHOUT MILK
For exact ingredient measurements, please scroll down to the Recipe Card.
- All purpose flour- I’ve used regular flour in this dairy-free homemade waffle recipe. If you follow a dairy-free diet and gluten-free diet, you can use gluten-free flour as well, I haven’t tried it myself but I think it’ll work! You can try using whole wheat flour as well if you don’t want to use all purpose flour.
- Baking powder– Some baking powder in our waffle mix will help our dairy free waffles rise and get all fluffy and gorgeous. That fluffy texture is everything ❤. This is a pretty important leavening agent.
- Salt– A pinch of salt here brings all those delicious flavors out. Don’t skip out on it!
- Large eggs– Eggs are pretty important here. They help bind all the ingredients together and add to the moisture and richness too. The egg whites add to the fluffiness (separate and whip your egg whites for an even fluffier waffle!) and the egg yolks add to the fat. You can try substituting with flax eggs here if you want to make some vegan waffles, I’ve not personally tried flax eggs here but I think it’ll work.
- Egg yolk– We’re using an extra egg yolk to make up for the fat since we’re not using milk and butter. An extra egg yolk with also add to the flavor, moisture and richness of our delicious waffles.
- Sugar– I’ve used regular granulated white sugar here. White sugar helps sweeten our no milk waffles just a bit and crisp them up too. You can use brown sugar or maybe even coconut sugar as well if you prefer.
- Water- Meet our milk substitute, water! Water works pretty well as a milk substitute here and you won’t miss milk much at all. I know water waffles may sound a little strange but trust me, it works! It’s a great neutral ingredient that gets the job done and everyone probably has it at home already. I haven’t tried it any other way because I love the waffles I get with water so much but you can try using soy milk, oat milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, unsweetened almond milk, rice milk or any other non-dairy milk, dairy-free milk or plant-based milk you prefer as a milk substitute here. Remember though that the texture and flavor of your waffles may change.
- Cooking oil– Use any regular neutral oil of your choice in this easy recipe. Oil is our butter substitute and works really well, crisping our waffles up to golden brown perfection. Go ahead and use a vegetable oil of your preference such as olive oil, canola oil, avocado oil or melted coconut oil. You can try using vegan butter instead of regular melted butter as well.
- Vanilla extract– Just a little vanilla extract for an added touch of vanilla flavor, lush! Vanilla extract adds some really good flavor here. I suggest you don’t skip out on vanilla extract when making this easy recipe.

HOW TO MAKE THIS WAFFLE RECIPE WITHOUT MILK [Step-by-Step Instructions with Photos]
Please keep in mind that I go into lots of detail in all my recipes so you get to know all the super important tips and tricks when it comes to making a particular recipe. I always want you to make the BEST of whatever you’re cooking ❤.
STEP 1: MIX THE DRY INGREDIENTS
Go ahead and preheat your waffle maker.
Take a medium mixing bowl and add all your dry ingredients in– all purpose flour, baking powder and salt. Don’t add the sugar yet.
Use a whisk and mix well.
STEP 2: MIX THE WET INGREDIENTS
Now, take a large bowl.
Add all your wet ingredients to the large bowl– the large eggs, egg yolk, sugar, water, vegetable oil and vanilla extract.
Break those egg yolks (fun!) and mix everything well with the help of a whisk until the mixture is all nice and frothy and the sugar has dissolved.
STEP 3: MIX EVERYTHING TOGETHER
Now, add your dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
Mix well with the help of a whisk or spatula for about 2 to 3 minutes. Don’t overmix though.
You may see some lumps and that’s okay. Break apart any large lumps of flour you see but the smaller lumps are fine.
This batter is on the thinner side and that’s perfectly okay.
STEP 4: START MAKING YOUR WAFFLES
Spray some cooking oil over your preheated waffle maker with the help of a cooking spray.
Now scoop your waffle batter into your preheated waffle maker, this can be about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of batter, until the waffle maker is full about 1/2 to 3/4th full, this depends on your waffle maker.
The more waffles you make, the more you’ll understand how much batter to add in and how much you need to fill your cup of batter.
And now, wait. Let your waffles cook until they turn a gorgeous golden brown or until your desired doneness. Every waffle maker works differently and how much time this will take for you will be different.
If you’re good at making waffles, continue making them and serve. Skip the part below. And hey, if you’re new to making waffles, continue reading ❤.
I suggest you be patient when making your waffles, don’t keep opening the waffle machine and checking on your waffle.
Keep a base time of maybe about 4 minutes (this depends on your waffle maker) and then check on your waffle. If you feel it’s not ready yet, cook it more.
I usually keep a check on how much steam is being let out by my waffle maker and once there’s no more steam coming out, I understand it may be time for a little peep!
Keep a check on how long it takes your waffle to turn that perfect golden brown, then cook all your waffles for that same amount of time. That’s what I do 😉.
Once each waffle is done cooking, I place it on a cooling rack so it doesn’t get soggy and keeps that crisp as it cools.
And if you’re making too many waffles and are scared the waffles you made at the beginning will get all cold, go ahead let your oven heat at 200°F or 93°C. Then, place your cooked waffles over a cooling rack inside a baking sheet and pop it in the oven. Let those cooked waffles stay warm while you cook the other waffles.
Don’t ever place one cooked waffle on top of the other. This will lead to them getting soggy.
And now coming to the best part, once you’re done cooking all your waffles, give one a taste. How good is that, hmm 💖?
Go ahead and top your waffles however you like and enjoy that crispy fluffy goodness.
Hey you, I really hope you love this Waffle Recipe without Milk as much as I do!
If you do, I would appreciate a star rating SO much (you can rate this recipe right below or from the Recipe Card 💖).

Notes ✍🏼
- Don’t skip out on any ingredient when making this no milk recipe. Right from the egg yolks to the baking powder and everything else, every ingredient here is important! I’ve used simple ingredients here to make things easy for you, please don’t skip on anything when making this easy waffle recipe ❤.
- Be careful when measuring the flour when making this no milk waffle recipe.I would suggest measuring in grams using a kitchen scale. If you don’t have a kitchen scale though, use the spoon and level method. Spoon your flour into the measuring cup and then level it with the help of a knife to get any excess flour out.
- I know it’s tempting to mix the wet ingredients and dry ingredients all together at the same time but please don’t! Use a separate bowl each to mix your wet ingredients and dry ingredients before mixing them together. This helps all those ingredients mix well and also prevents overmixing.
- Don’t overmix the batter when making this easy waffle recipe. Overmixing your batter can lead to tough waffles, mix gently and just a little bit, a few lumps in the batter are okay!
- The batter to make these crispy dairy-free waffles is a little on the thinner side and that’s perfectly fine ❤.
- Don’t forget to preheat your waffle maker before starting to make your waffles.
- Spray your waffle maker with cooking spray before pouring the waffle batter in! Spraying your waffle maker with cooking spray helps prevent the waffle from sticking.
- Always follow the instructions of your waffle maker and get to know it well, whether you’re using a regular waffle maker or a Belgian waffle maker to make some Belgian waffles. Every waffle maker out there is different and has different rules when it comes to preheating, cooking, using cooking spray, etc.
- Be careful of the batter overflowing! The first time you’re making a waffle, pour just a little batter in (fill the waffle maker up maybe about halfway) so you understand how much more batter you can add to your waffle maker the next time and how much it can take before everything starts to overflow. I usually fill my waffle maker up until it’s 3/4th full but that’s how my waffle iron works, yours may be different.
- Don’t keep opening your waffle maker while your waffle cooks. Let that waffle cook until the waffle maker is not letting any more steam out, give it a tiny look and then cook more if needed.
- Cook your waffles a little bit more for some extra time if you want them to be even crispier and more golden!
- Keep your hot crispy golden brown waffles on a wire rack the second they’re done cooking. This will help all that steam escape keeping your waffles nice and crispy.
- Serve these crispy dairy-free waffles immediately to have the absolute best waffles that are perfectly crisp on the outside and have a soft fluffy texture on the inside.
- Store any leftover waffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator once they reach room temperature. They’ll stay good for about 3 to 4 days.

TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST WAFFLE RECIPE WITHOUT MILK
This is such an easy homemade waffle recipe.
It’s super easy to make but hey, here are a few helpful tips to get the most delicious waffles with a gorgeous crisp and fluffy texture every single time 💃🏻!
- Don’t forget to always preheat your waffle maker before starting to make your waffles. A nice and hot waffle maker is perfect to get those crispy fluffy waffles!
- Always follow the instructions of your waffle maker and get to know it well, whether you’re using a regular waffle maker or a Belgian waffle maker to know how to use your waffle maker in the best way possible! Every waffle maker out there is different and has different rules when it comes to preheating, cooking, using cooking spray, etc. This recipe works well with a regular waffle maker, a Belgian waffle maker or literally any waffle maker out there.
- Please don’t skip out on any ingredient when making this no milk waffle recipe. Right from the egg yolks to the baking powder and everything in between, every ingredient here does some major work! I’ve used simple ingredients here to make things easy for you, please don’t skip on anything to get the best waffles ever ❤.
- Make sure your baking powder is fresh. This is a pretty important leavening agent in our no milk waffle recipe.
- Be careful when measuring the flour. For best results, I would suggest measuring in grams using a kitchen scale. If you don’t own a kitchen scale, go ahead and use the spoon and level method. Don’t scoop your entire measuring cup into the flour or scoop the flour from the bag into your measuring cup. Instead, spoon your flour into the measuring cup and then level it with the help of a knife to get any excess flour out.
- I know it’s tempting to mix the wet ingredients and dry ingredients all together at the same time but don’t! Please use a separate bowl each to mix your wet ingredients and dry ingredients before mixing them together. This helps all those ingredients mix well together and also prevents overmixing which will make your waffles tough.
- Ooh and don’t overmix the batter when making this delicious waffle recipe. Overmixing your batter can lead to tough waffles and we don’t want that. A few lumps in the batter are okay!
- The batter to make these crispy dairy-free waffles is a little on the thinner side and that’s okay. Don’t worry ❤.
- Go ahead and spray your waffle maker with cooking spray before pouring the batter in! Cooking spray helps prevent your waffles from sticking. You can use some cooking spray in between cooking your waffles too to keep the waffle maker nice and greased.
- Be careful of the batter overflowing! Don’t add too much batter to your waffle maker. The best way to find out is- the first time you’re making a waffle, pour just a little batter in (fill the waffle maker up maybe about halfway) so you understand how much more batter you can add to your waffle maker the next time and how much it will take before everything starts to overflow. I usually fill my waffle maker up until it’s 3/4th full but that’s how my waffle iron works, yours may be different.
- Don’t keep opening your waffle maker to get a peek. Let that waffle cook until the waffle maker is not letting any more steam out, give it a tiny look then cook more if it’s needed.
- Cook your waffles for a little bit longer for some extra time if you want them to be even crispier and more golden!
- Keep your crispy golden brown waffles on a wire rack the second they’re out of the waffle maker. This will help all that steam escape keeping your waffles all nice and crispy.
- And serve these crispy dairy-free waffles immediately to have waffles with that perfect crisp on the outside and soft fluffy texture on the inside.
- And if you’re making too many waffles and are scared your first waffles will get all cold, go ahead let your oven heat at 200°F or 93°C. Then, place your cooked waffles over a cooling rack inside a baking sheet and pop it in the oven. This will help those cooked waffles stay warm and fresh while you cook the other waffles.
- Store any leftover waffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator once they reach room temperature. They’ll stay good for about 3 to 4 days and reheat pretty well on those busy mornings!

Yay! I’m so glad to hear that, Rosa. Thank you for the comment ❤.
Absolutely delicious waffles. I can have them on their own too, perfectly crispy and light and such a delicate flavor… Thanks for the recipe. I love my waffles with maple syrup and I couldn’t stop eating these. Thanks again.
Yay thank you so much for the lovely comment, Cameron. I’m so glad you love the waffles! I gobble up at least three waffles while making the rest, it’s an addiction I can’t stop!
