You can brew your coffee however you like.

You can also use shots of espresso or maybe even instant coffee (like me!)… maybe regular or cold brew coffee too.

I prefer making my coffee a little strong so it holds its own with all that creamy milk but you can make your coffee even stronger or maybe not make it as strong if you want a creamier, milkier beverage.

So Zee and I are still very much into bubble tea and our love for it is here to stay!

Zee recently wanted to try a different milk at our fav bubble tea place and he went for oat milk cause we keep hearing about how it’s super creamy and delish.

And wow, it was.

It was everything we thought it would be!

Ultra creamy and sooo yum with the slightest hint of natural sweetness.

We bought two cartons of oat milk that same day! It became our new obsession!

We started experimenting with it using all the different teas (oooh, you can check this Easy Homemade Japanese Royal Milk Tea Recipe made using only 3 ingredients if you’re into tea!) we have at home.

And then we thought of making some creamy milky coffee with it.

Zee and I like coffee but we aren’t huge coffee lovers… For some reason though, we just felt like trying oat milk with coffee. I have no idea why!

We did and this recipe came in, with just the right amount of coffee, oat milk and sweet caramel toffee-ness from a little brown sugar and maple syrup!

It’s one of the best coffee with oat milk recipes ever ❤.

We experimented with so many ingredients and quantities until we got this recipe… It still surprises me how wonderful this combination of ingredients- strong coffee, oat milk, brown sugar and maple syrup tastes.

And along with that thick creamy frothy layer of oat milk on top? This recipe is absolutely amazing.

And the total time needed to make it? Less than five minutes.

Takes me by surprise every single time. Yum ❤.

INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS FOR OAT MILK COFFEE RECIPE

This super easy oat milk coffee recipe uses only 4 ingredients 😍!

To make this oat milk coffee we need:

  • Coffee- You can use whatever coffee you prefer here. You don’t need any expensive special equipment to get super delicious oat milk coffee ❤. Just make sure your coffee is on the stronger side so it holds its own in all that creamy oat milk. I’ve used instant coffee here. You can use instant coffee as well or maybe brew some fresh coffee (using a standard coffee maker, moka pot or however you like). You can use cold brew coffee or maybe even coffee concentrate as well. You can also use instant espresso. If you have an espresso machine, go ahead and use about 1-2 shots of espresso to make a classic latte. You can use decaffeinated coffee too to turn this into a decaf oat milk coffee recipe. Use whatever is easy for you to make as well as a taste you prefer, so many options!
  • Maple syrup- The flavors of coffee and maple syrup go so well together. Maple syrup adds flavors that are rich… caramelly, floral, woody, vanilla-ey…! It’s amazing and tastes so good! I can’t stress enough how good maple syrup tastes here but if you don’t have any at home, you can substitute with whatever sweetener you prefer best. You can skip on maple syrup too if you don’t prefer adding a sweetener to your homemade oat milk lattes.
  • Brown sugar- We have another incredible sweetener here. Brown sugar lends caramelly nutty toffee flavors to our coffee and together with maple syrup adds the richest most gorgeous flavors ever. We don’t use too much maple syrup and brown sugar here, just a little to add those unique flavors and just a little sweetness to our oat milk coffee. Brown sugar is so good here but if you don’t have any at home, you can substitute it with whatever sweetener you like. You can skip out on it too if you don’t prefer a sweetener in your creamy oat milk coffee.
  • Oat milk- Ah, oat milk. We need some nice unflavored and unsweetened creamy oat milk here that can froth up well and make our homemade oat milk lattes deliciously rich and creamy. I prefer using barista blend oat milk here because it’s creamier (that creamy texture!❤) and easier to froth up. I’ve heard of people loving Oatly as well as Califia farms. I suggest you use a barista-style oat milk too for best results. Let me know what your favorite brand of oat milk is in the comments section below. You can also make your own oat milk. You can substitute with any non-dairy milk you prefer here such well such as maybe almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, cashew milk… whatever you prefer. You can use regular milk too if you want (whole milk is best!). Use any type of milk you like.

RECIPE VARIATIONS YOU CAN TRY

This oat milk coffee recipe has like a bajillion variations and I’m sharing as many as I can think of here 💃🏻.

  • Go ahead and use whatever coffee you know, love and prefer but just make sure it’s on the stronger side. This is so it can hold its own in all that creamy oat milk. You can use instant coffee or even instant espresso. You can use freshly brewed coffee too if you have a standard coffee maker or even a French press or moka pot. You can also use cold brew coffee, regular coffee or maybe even coffee concentrate as well. You can use an espresso machine and make some rich espresso shots to make a classic latte with oat milk too. The options are endless, just use whatever you prefer, the drink will come out delicious!
  • You can turn this into a decaf oat milk coffee recipe by using decaf coffee if you don’t want the caffeine. Your oat milk coffee will still taste amazing!
  • This coffee drink is perfect for me but I understand we all have our preferences when it comes to our coffee drinks and you may prefer different proportions of ingredients. If you prefer a stronger oat milk coffee, go ahead and use stronger coffee and/or less oat milk and more coffee. If you want your drink to be creamier, go ahead and use weaker coffee or lesser coffee and/or more oat milk. You can have this drink however you like ❤.
  • I’ve used unflavored and unsweetened creamy barista-style oat milk here. It froths up well and makes our homemade oat milk lattes deliciously rich and creamy. It’s the best dairy-free milk for creamy coffee in my opinion! You can use whatever plant-based milk you prefer here though such as almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, cashew milk… loads of options! You can use regular milk too if you want (whole milk is best here!).
  • You can make your own oat milk too if you prefer. Make sure you have nut milk bags on hand to help strain your homemade oat milk!
  • Want to experiment a little? Use a different flavor of oat milk! You can buy chocolate oat milk, strawberry oat milk, vanilla oat milk… Use whatever flavor of oat milk you prefer and make this delicious and simple oat milk latte recipe.
  • You can also use regular barista blend oat milk and add a few drops of vanilla extract to it or use vanilla flavored oat milk to make some vanilla oat milk coffee. You can also make some mocha oat milk coffee by adding a little cocoa powder to regular barista blend oat milk or you can use chocolate oat milk as well! You can also pour in some coffee into a chai tea latte as well to make a dirty chai latte. You can make a coffee matcha latte too! There are so many things you can do!
  • The level of sweetness in this recipe is perfect for me but if you prefer a sweeter drink, go ahead and add more brown sugar and/or maple syrup and if you don’t prefer your drink to be on the sweeter side, add less brown sugar and/or maple syrup to your drink. You can skip out on adding brown sugar and/or maple syrup if you prefer to if you don’t want any sweetness in your oat milk coffee.
  • I prefer that delicious caramelly combination of brown sugar and maple syrup but if you want to use just one of them, you can! You can also use your sweetener of choice. There are so many different sweeteners out there and each sweetener will add its own unique taste to your oat milk coffee. You can experiment and see what you prefer. You can use coconut sugar, agave syrup, cane sugar, honey, white sugar, condensed milk, homemade brown sugar syrup… so many options! You can use already sweetened oat milk too. You can also use zero-calorie sweeteners.
  • If it’s all cold outside and you want a delicious drink to warm you up, you can go ahead and make some hot oat milk coffee. This oat milk coffee tastes so good all nice and warm!
  • You can also make a deliciously creamy and refreshing homemade iced oat milk latte too! To make an iced latte, go ahead and pour in whatever coffee you’re using (you can use cold brew coffee as well) into your favorite glass and add the brown sugar, maple syrup and some ice cubes. Then pour in some cold creamy oat milk and gently mix everything together. Enjoy that creamy iced coffee ❤.
  • Don’t have a milk frother? It’s perfectly fine! You can check what to do here below or just skip out on it! This vegan oat milk coffee recipe will taste incredible nonetheless 🤩. You can also top your dairy-free coffee with vegan whipped cream to add the most delish flavor and creamy touch. You can add this over the oat milk foam or add it if you’re not frothing your milk as a substitute for the creamy frothiness.
  • For a creamier flavor, you can try a vegan creamer as well. You can maybe also use condensed coconut milk.
  • MY GOODNESS, there are so many interesting flavors you can add to this delicious plant-based milk coffee. Go ahead and add in some pumpkin pie spice (yum pumpkin spice!) to make a cozy oat milk pumpkin spice latte! Or make an oat milk gingerbread latte that tastes like a delish gingerbread cookie by adding some ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, molasses and cloves. You can also add a touch of chocolate by sprinkling some cocoa powder on top turning this into a mocha oat milk latte recipe. There are so many things you can do!
  • There are lots of warm spices you can add to your oat milk coffee too such as ground cardamom, cinnamon, cayenne (for a hint of spice), star anise, cloves, ginger, allspice… 💖.
  • There are loads of syrups you can pour into your oat milk coffee too to add the most delicious flavors to it! You can pour in some caramel syrup, chocolate syrup, lavender syrup, vanilla syrup or maybe even hazelnut syrup. You can make a chocolate mint latte by pouring in some chocolate syrup with peppermint extract. You can make a biscoff latte too by pouring in some biscoff syrup into your oat milk coffee and topping it up with some biscoff cookie crumbs! You can make a salted caramel latte too by pouring in some caramel sauce and adding a pinch of salt. You can flavor the foamed milk on top as well!
  • If you’re well-versed in making different coffee drinks out there, you can go ahead and make a cappuccino, macchiato, cortado, flat white or cafe au lait using oat milk and coffee! It’s a fun process learning which coffee drinks you prefer best.

HOW TO MAKE THIS OAT MILK COFFEE RECIPE [Step-by-Step Guide With Photos]

HOT OAT MILK COFFEE RECIPE

STEP 1:

Take your favorite mug and pour your fresh hot coffee into it.

STEP 2:

Add the maple syrup and brown sugar in…

Mix well.

STEP 3:

Now heat your oat milk in a separate mug.

You can heat it in the microwave or over the stove in a saucepan over medium heat.

The oat milk doesn’t need to come to a boil. Just let it get all hot and steamy and that’s all.

Now’s the time to froth your oat milk.

Make sure you use a separate mug/glass to froth your milk. Don’t pour it into the coffee yet!

Don’t worry if you don’t have an espresso machine with a milk steamer attachment to steam your milk, we can go ahead and froth our milk to make it nice, airy and creamy.

I’ve used an electric milk frother to froth my oat milk.

(And hey, you can just pour your oat milk in as it is too if you don’t want to froth it up).

There are quite a few ways you can froth your milk…

  • Froth your oat milk using an electric frother until it becomes all frothy and foamy (it may almost double in size and reach the top of the glass as it froths up). Go clockwise, anti-clockwise, tilt the frother as well as the glass of milk just a little to help your milk air up and get super frothy without much trouble.
  • You can also use a mason jar. Just pour your warm milk into the mason jar, seal it and shake it vigorously for a minute or two. You’ll see the oat milk get all frothy and bubbly.
  • Or go ahead and heat the oat milk in a saucepan over your stovetop over medium heat. As it starts to heat up, whisk the warm milk with a hand whisk until it gets foamy. Switch the heat off.
  • You can use a blender as well. Go ahead and blend your oat milk until it gets nice and foamy.
  • You can use an immersion blender or hand blender to foam up your oat milk too.
  • A French press can help froth your milk up as well!
  • If you don’t feel like doing any of this, you can just give your oat milk carton a nice shake. The milk won’t be too frothy of course but it’ll bubble up just a bit.

Once your milk is all nice and frothy, move to the next step!

STEP 4:

Gently pour that delicious creamy frothed oat milk into the coffee…

and pour…

and pour some more, topping it with all that creamy froth 😍…

Give it a gentle stir and enjoy ❤. Such a delicious treat!

ICED OAT MILK COFFEE RECIPE 🧊

STEP 1:

Take a gorgeous tall glass and pour your coffee into it.

STEP 2:

Add the maple syrup…

and brown sugar…

Mix well.

STEP 3:

Now’s the time to froth your oat milk to make it nice and creamy.

(And hey, you can just pour your oat milk in as it is too if you don’t want to froth it up).

Make sure you use a separate mug/glass to froth your milk. Don’t pour it into the coffee yet!

But here are a few tips to make things even easier when making this simple oat milk latte recipe…

  • This easy oat milk coffee recipe is vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and nut-free which is super awesome but as always, please read through the ingredient lists of everything you’re using to make sure they don’t contain any unnecessary ingredients.
  • This is a creamy milky drink so you’ll need your coffee to be pretty strong to hold its own. You can brew some super strong coffee, use strong instant coffee or maybe even a rich espresso shot or two, it all depends on you. If you prefer a coffee flavor in your drink that’s not very strong, go ahead and use some weak coffee or just add less coffee to your drink.
  • You can also use decaf coffee if you don’t want too much caffeine in your drink.
  • Always add the maple syrup and brown sugar to the coffee itself first. The hot coffee helps the sugar dissolve mixing super well with the coffee so you don’t get any non-sweet sips or sugar granules while sipping on your drink.
  • Always use good quality oat milk for best results. I love using unsweetened barista blend oat milk without any added flavors. Barista-style oat milk is super creamy, delish and goes very well with coffee. Find a flavor of oat milk YOU like. Some oat milks may taste yum on their own but ho hum in coffee and vice versa. A good bet would be to go for a barista-style oat milk though. Oh and if you’ve got some nut milk bags, you can go ahead and make homemade oat milk too, if you prefer!
  • Always heat your oat milk until it’s heated through but don’t let it get to a boil. That’s because when oat milk gets super hot, it can curdle. Curdled oat milk doesn’t taste good and will have a terrible texture too 😱.
  • If you don’t have an espresso machine with a milk steamer attachment, don’t worry! You can use an electric milk frother. If you don’t have a milk frother either, no worries one again, there are loads of ways you can froth your milk. Just go ahead and check this section out above.
  • If you’re using a milk frother, go clockwise, anti-clockwise, tilt the frother as well as the glass of oat milk just a little to help your milk air up and get super frothy without much trouble.
  • Some oat milks just don’t froth and that’s not your fault. Try using a different brand of oat milk. Always make sure you’re using barista-style oat milk.

  • I hate when the ice in my iced oat milk latte completely melts, making the drink all watery. A good thing to do would be to make coffee ice cubes. Just pour your coffee into an ice tray, freeze it and use those coffee cubes instead of ice. Those ice cubes fill your drink up with the most delish coffee-ness as they melt.

Why is my oat milk separating in coffee? How do I prevent oat milk from separating in coffee?

Oat milk may sometimes curdle when mixed in with coffee or a shot of espresso for quite a few reasons with one of the main reasons being- the coffee you’re using is too acidic.

I haven’t faced this issue but I’ve heard it happens quite a bit.

Here are a few things you can do to prevent curdled oat milk when making oat milk coffee:

  • Try and use a coffee that’s not very acidic;
  • Use a barista style oat milk, these are usually made to mix well with coffee and work at high temperatures;
  • Give a nice shake to your oat milk carton before pouring to bring everything together in case of any separation;       
  • Let your coffee get a little cooler and not super hot before mixing it with the oat milk;
  • Don’t overheat your oat milk if you’re making a hot oat milk latte. Oat milk will curdle on its own if it gets super hot.

How to thicken oat milk for coffee?

Always try and use barista-style oat milk when making oat milk coffee.

Barista-style oat milk is creamy, froths/steams easily and is less likely to curdle when mixed with coffee.

Also, to thicken your oat milk when making oat milk coffee, go ahead and steam your oat milk using the milk steamer attachment of your espresso machine if you own one.

And if you don’t own an espresso machine, you can froth your oat milk to make it thick, creamy and oh so frothy ❤!

There are quite a few ways you can froth your milk…

  • Use an electric frother and froth your oat milk until it becomes all frothy and foamy (it may almost double in size and reach the top of the glass as it froths up).
  • You can use a mason jar too! Pour your warm milk into a mason jar, seal it and shake it vigorously for a minute or two. You’ll see the oat milk get all frothy, bubbly and creamy.
  • Or heat the oat milk in a saucepan over your stovetop. As the oat milk starts to heat up, whisk it with a hand whisk until it gets foamy. Switch the heat off and pour into your coffee.
  • You can also use a blender. Just blend your oat milk until it gets nice and foamy.

One of the main differences between regular oat milk and barista-style oat milk lies in the texture.

Barista-style oat milk has a creamier texture than regular oat milk.

That’s because it has oil and other extra ingredients to make it creamier, help it steam/froth/foam easily and work well when making coffee or other drinks.

Barista-style oat milk is specially made to be this way. It’s so creamy and is the perfect oat milk to choose when making hot or cold drinks.

You can use regular oat milk to make your coffee too but it may be thinner without a creamy consistency, may not froth/steam/foam up easily and may also curdle when mixed with coffee.

Since barista-style milk has extra added ingredients to help with the creaminess, you can check the ingredients of both these milk before making a decision.

You can also go ahead and experiment until you find the perfect oat milk that goes well with coffee, whether it’s barista-style oat milk or even regular oat milk.

Can I make oat milk coffee with instant coffee?

Yes, you can make oat milk coffee with instant coffee! It’ll still be one of the most delish coffee drinks ever.

I’ve used instant coffee here myself.

Just add a teaspoon of instant coffee into 60 ml or 1/4th cup of hot water. Then add in the sweeteners and give that hot water coffee sweetener mixture a good mix before pouring in that cup of oat milk.

You can use whatever coffee you prefer to get your coffee fix.

You can use some rich espresso or freshly brewed coffee too if you have a classic French press espresso maker. Just make sure the coffee you’re using is on the stronger side (like… really strong black coffee) so it holds its own in all that creamy oat milk ❤.

In very simple words, this delicious popular choice of plant-based milk is made by blending oats (rolled oats are used most of the time) in water and then straining the mixture to get all that creamy goodness.

It’s one of the yummiest milk substitutes out there (For me at least! I find myself craving a cup of oat milk every other day!).

Even if you’re using unsweetened unflavored oat milk, it may still have a slightly sweet taste.

Thanks to that natural sweetness in oat milk, it may make your coffee just a tad bit sweeter.

I don’t find oat milk’s slightly sweet taste sweet enough though and I feel the strong flavor of coffee powers through so I add a sweetener to oat milk coffee to bring everything together.

You can taste your oat milk coffee without any sweeteners added in and see if you prefer it that way.

How can I make oat milk coffee without a milk frother?

There are loads of ways you can froth oat milk without a milk frother. A few ways are…

  • You can use a mason jar. Just pour your warm milk into a mason jar, seal it and shake it vigorously for a minute or two. You’ll see the oat milk get all frothy and bubbly. If you’re making an iced latte, go ahead and place ice cubes into the mason jar itself and shake your oat milk around with those ice cubes! Yay 💃🏻.

  • You can use an immersion blender or hand blender to foam up your oat milk too.
  • A French press can help froth your milk up as well!
  • And if it’s a lazy day and you don’t feel like doing any of this, you can give your oat milk carton a nice shake. The milk won’t be too frothy of course but it’ll get some air bubbles in and bubble up a bit.

Don’t worry. You can always skip out on frothing your oat milk if you prefer and your oat milk coffee will still taste absolutely incredible!

How do I make oat milk coffee less bitter?

Let’s try and figure out why your oat milk coffee is turning out bitter in the first place. This can be because of quite a few reasons…

Maybe you’re heating your oat milk too much and it’s burning, giving your oat milk a terrible bitter burnt taste.

Or maybe you’re using an incredibly strong coffee?

Try using a weaker coffee or maybe even a different brand of oat milk.

Try and use barista-style oat milk if you can. It tends to be on the creamier side and works well with coffee.

It also tends to be more stable than regular oat milk thanks to a few added ingredients which means it won’t easily curdle when you heat it or mix it with coffee (it still can though so be careful and use a less acidic coffee and don’t boil it).

Also, don’t overheat your oat milk.

How do I store leftover oat milk coffee?

It’s always best to have this delicious coffee drink fresh.

If you want to store it though, go ahead and pour it in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for about 1 to 2 days. Make sure you mix it really well before having it again.

Can I reheat oat milk coffee?

I haven’t really tried it and I’ve heard the texture of your oat milk coffee can sometimes get pretty weird if you reheat it BUT you can try it for yourself and see how it tastes.

Go ahead and give the airtight container you’ve stored your oat milk coffee in a good shake.

Then pour the oat milk coffee into a mug and heat it in the microwave until it’s heated through. You can froth your coffee again if you want.

When I store my oat milk coffee in the fridge, I prefer having it iced rather than heating it. But it’s completely your choice ❤. You can give it a go and see if the texture of your coffee is affected in any way.

Can I make oat milk coffee iced?

Yes, you can make some delicious iced oat milk coffee!

To make some iced coffee, go ahead and pour in whatever coffee you’re using once it has cooled down into a gorgeous tall glass (you can use cold brew coffee too), add the brown sugar, maple syrup and some ice cubes.

Then pour in some cold creamy oat milk and gently mix everything together. You can froth your cold oat milk before pouring it in too, if you prefer.

Top it your iced coffee with whatever you like such as whipped cream, extra maple syrup, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, sprinkles, a thick layer of milk foam…!

Why should I choose oat milk over other plant-based milks for coffee?

Hey, you can use whatever milk you prefer whether it’s dairy milk or plant-based milk (such as almond milk, cashew milk…) when making your coffee. It’s all up to you!

I personally prefer either dairy milk or oat milk when making coffee.

I was pleasantly surprised when I tried oat milk for the very first time.

It hit me why it’s come out to be one of the most popular and loved plant-based milks in recent years.

I mean, don’t get me wrong. I like other plant-based milk too (almond milk, cashew milk…!).

But oat milk is… something else.

Oat milk to me, doesn’t taste like regular milk but has its own unique delicious flavor. Plus it’s super creamy and I adore it ❤.

I never knew I’d fall so deeply in love with plant-based milk but here we are!

So lemme tell you why I prefer oat milk more than other plant-based milks in my coffee…

  • It’s so creamy, especially the barista-style oat milk which is specifically sold to make drinks with. It’s such deliciously thick creamy milk, it’s insane!
  • And it froths up easily too, perfect!
  • It has this delicious subtle flavor and natural sweetness that works so well with coffee… it doesn’t overpower and dominate the drink at all.
  • Plus, it tastes absolutely incredible on its own too. We find ourselves randomly grabbing a glass of it at home, it tastes that good.

Oh how lucky are you to come across this oat milk coffee recipe today! It’s the absolute best with only 4 ingredients too. Strong delicious coffee mixed with a little maple syrup (for that caramelly flavor) and just a bit of brown sugar (for a touch of toffee-ness), topped with creamy frothy oat milk. My goodness, how did I not try oat milk with my coffee before?! It’s also super easy to make and is ready in just 5 minutes! This cozy drink is such a winner.

Instructions

Hot Oat Milk Coffee Recipe ☕

  • Pour ¼ cup or 60 ml coffee into your favorite mug.
  • Add 1 tsp maple syrup and 1 tsp brown sugar in.
    Mix well.
  • In a separate mug, heat ¾ cup or 180 ml oat milk.
    You can heat it in the microwave or over the stove in a saucepan over medium heat. 
    You don’t need to bring your oat milk to a boil, just make sure it’s steamy and heated through.
    Don’t pour your hot oat milk into the coffee just yet. We need to froth it first.
    Make sure you use a separate mug/glass to froth your oat milk.
    It’s okay if you don’t have an espresso machine with a milk steamer attachment to steam your milk, I don’t have one either! If you do though, go ahead and use it to steam and foam up your oat milk.
    (And hey, you can just pour your oat milk in as it is too if you don’t want to froth it up).
    *Or if you're familiar with frothing your milk, you can skip the part below and move to the next step…
    There are so many ways you can froth your milk.

Go clockwise, anti-clockwise, tilt the frother as well as the glass of oat milk milk just a little to help your milk air up and get super frothy and airy.

    4) You can use a blender too. Go ahead and blend your oat milk until it gets nice and foamy.

    Give it all a gentle stir and enjoy ❤. Ah… so.good!

TIPS:
  • This easy coffee with oat milk recipe is vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and nut-free (wooohoo 💃🏻) but as always, please read through the ingredient lists of everything you’re using to make sure they don’t contain any unnecessary ingredients.
  • This is a rich creamy milky drink so you’ll need your coffee to be pretty strong to hold its own. You can brew some super strong coffee, use strong instant coffee or maybe even a rich espresso shot or two, depending on what you prefer. If you prefer a coffee flavor in your drink that’s not very strong, go ahead and use some weak coffee that’s not super strong or just add less coffee to your drink.
  • Always add the maple syrup and brown sugar to the coffee itself. This helps the sugar dissolve and mix super well with the coffee so you don’t get any sugar granules while sipping on your drink.
  • Use good quality fresh oat milk. I love using unsweetened barista blend oat milk without any added flavors. Barista blend oat milk is super creamy, delish and works super well with coffee.
  • Don’t ever let your oat milk get to a boil, just let it heat until it’s heated through and steamy. That’s because super hot oat milk can curdle. Curdled oat milk doesn’t taste good and will have a horrifying texture too 😱.
  • When using an electric milk frother, go clockwise and anti-clockwise. Also tilt the frother as well as the glass of oat milk just a little to help your milk air up and get super creamy.
  • Some oat milks just don’t froth and it’s not your fault. Try and use another brand of oat milk. Always make sure you’re using barista-style oat milk.
  • You can also reserve some oat milk on the side to froth up for an extra fat creamy layer of frothed milk to top your creamy frothy oat milk coffee with. You can also just pour in the oat milk without frothing it into your coffee and top it up with a layer of frothed milk. It’s all up to you! Oh and vanilla extract! You can add a few drops of vanilla extract before frothing that milk for some delicious vanilla foam. Yum!
  • Oh and hey, you don’t need to froth the oat milk This oat milk coffee will taste absolutely delicious even without frothing the milk. The frothed milk is just an added bonus but if you can’t froth your oat milk, don’t worry. Your coffee will still taste delish.
  • A good thing to do when making some iced oat milk lattes would be to make coffee ice cubes. Just pour your coffee into an ice tray and freeze it. Place ice cubes in the glass and enjoy with your drink. Those coffee ice cubes fill your drink up with the most delish coffee-ness as they melt which means no more watery lattes. Yay!
  • The proportions I’ve used in this recipe work well and are perfect for me but you may prefer a stronger coffee flavor or a milkier drink… Perhaps a sweeter touch? Go ahead and make this recipe yours and add as much coffee, milk and/or sweetener as you like, depending on how YOU prefer your drink to be. You’ll understand the proportions you prefer the more you make this recipe.
VARIATIONS:
  • Use whatever coffee you know, love and prefer but make sure it’s on the stronger side so it can hold its own in all that creamy oat milk. You can use instant coffee, instant espresso or even freshly brewed coffee if you have a coffee machine, French press or moka pot. You can also use cold brew coffee, regular coffee, coffee concentrate or even rich espresso shots for a classic latte if you have an espresso machine. There are so many options! Just go ahead and use whatever you prefer, the drink will come out delicious!
  • You can use decaf coffee too if you don’t want too much caffeine in your drink.
  • If you like a stronger coffee flavor in your oat milk coffee recipe, just make stronger coffee or add less oat milk. And if you want a milder coffee flavor, make coffee that’s not very strong or add more oat milk. The strength of coffee in this oat milk coffee recipe is perfect for me, it’s not too strong nor too weak, but you can customize this recipe however you prefer.
  • I’ve used unflavored and unsweetened creamy barista-style oat milk here. It froths up like a dream and makes my homemade oat milk lattes deliciously rich and creamy (that creamy texture ❤!). It’s the best dairy-free milk for rich creamy coffee in my opinion! But you can use whatever plant-based milk you prefer here such as almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, cashew milk… You can use regular milk too if you want (whole milk is best here).
  • You can also make your own oat milk if you prefer.

  • If you prefer a sweeter drink, add more brown sugar and/or maple syrup and if you don’t prefer your drink to be on the sweeter side, add less brown sugar and/or maple syrup to your drink. You can also skip out on adding brown sugar and/or maple syrup if you prefer if you don’t want any sweetness in your oat milk coffee.
  • I loveee that delicious caramelly combination of brown sugar and maple syrup but if you want to use just one of them, you can! You can use your sweetener of choice too. There are many different sweeteners out there and each sweetener will add its own unique taste to your oat milk coffee. You can experiment and see what you prefer. You can use coconut sugar, agave syrup, cane sugar, honey, white sugar, condensed milk, homemade brown sugar syrup… so many options! You can use sweetened oat milk too. You can also use zero-calorie sweetener.
  • If it’s cold outside and you want a delicious drink to cozy up with, go ahead and make some hot coffee. This oat milk coffee tastes so good all nice and warm!
  • You can also make a deliciously creamy and refreshing iced oat milk latte if it’s super hot outside and you need to relax a bit! So.good!
  • You can also top this dairy-free coffee with vegan whipped cream to add the most delish flavor and creamy touch. You can top it over the milk foam or add it if you’re not frothing your milk as a substitute for the frothed layer of milk.
  • You can try a vegan creamer as well for a creamier flavor. You can maybe also use condensed coconut milk.
  • And MY GOODNESS there are so many delicious flavors you can add to this delicious plant-based milk coffee. Go ahead and add in some pumpkin pie spice to make a cozy oat milk pumpkin spice latte! Or make an oat milk gingerbread latte that tastes like a lovely gingerbread cookie by adding some ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, molasses and cloves. You can also add a touch of chocolate by sprinkling some cocoa powder on top turning this into a mocha oat milk latte recipe.
  • There are so many warm spices you can add to your oat milk coffee too such as ground cardamom, cinnamon, just a little bit of cayenne (for a little spice), star anise, cloves, ginger, allspice, …
  • There are also loads of syrups you can pour into your oat milk coffee to add the most delicious flavors to it! You can pour in some caramel syrup, chocolate syrup, lavender syrup, vanilla syrup or maybe even hazelnut syrup. You can make a chocolate mint latte by pouring in some chocolate syrup with some peppermint extract. You can make a biscoff latte too by pouring in some biscoff syrup into your oat milk coffee and topping it up with some biscoff cookie crumbs! You can also make a salted caramel latte by pouring in some caramel sauce and adding a pinch of salt. You can flavor the foamed milk on top too!
