WHAT IS THIS KOREAN STRAWBERRY MILK RECIPE?
This Korean strawberry milk recipe is a really interesting drink made with simple ingredients and is one of the most delicious recipes ever to enjoy on a hot summer day.
It’s thick syrupy strawberry puree (made with real strawberries) mixed with creamy cold milk and topped with some more fresh strawberry chunks.
With every sip, you taste creamy milk, dollops of thick sweet strawberry puree and bits of juicy strawberry.
The combination of this sweet and tart fruit pureed and then mixed with some creamy milk is incredible ❤. The depth of flavor is… amazing.
You’re gonna fall deeply in love!
That fresh strawberry flavor really is something and just works so well here, it’s crazy.
Something I really love is that this drink is not too sweet, it’s just right (you can always work with the amount of sugar though!).
So hey, why even is this recipe called “Korean strawberry milk” and not just strawberry milk?
That’s because Korean cafes in South Korea make strawberry milk in a different way. It’s not like regular strawberry milk.
The strawberry milk served in Korean cafes is different and is now getting pretty popular in the United States too.
Korean cafes add a delicious thick strawberry sauce made with real strawberries at the bottom of the glass and then pour a cup of milk in. The drink is then topped with small pieces of juicy strawberries, giving us a drink that tastes just so good!
Korean strawberry milk is also called strawberry latte in Korean cafes.
Go ahead and make a refreshing glass of strawberry milk right away. It’s a delicious way to enjoy some fresh fruits!
Oh and the best part?
You can serve this popular drink with any dairy-free milk of your choice too such as full-fat coconut milk (I’ve heard homemade coconut milk tastes incredible here!), almond milk (I’ve heard almond milk is a great way to enjoy this drink too!), oat milk, soy milk or any non-dairy milk alternatives you prefer. It’ll always taste the absolute best.
You can share your stories with this delicious quick recipe in the comments below too whether this is the first time you’re trying this recipe or if you’ve already had it multiple times before, I would love to hear all about it!

This popular drink uses only 5 super easy to find simple ingredients out of which 2 are optional.
- Fresh strawberries- The star of the show! We use fresh real strawberries here. This juicy plump fruit is sweet and tart with flavors that somehow work really well with creamy milk to give us this refreshing drink. Not in strawberry season? Thats okay! If you can’t find fresh strawberries, you can use frozen strawberries too.
- Sugar- We make our homemade strawberry syrup with the help of sugar. Sugar breaks down the strawberries and brings all those natural sugars out. It’s delicious. And heated together? You get a thick sticky deliciously sweet strawberry syrup (that depth of flavor is incredible). I haven’t used a large amount of sugar here so our syrup is not too sweet. You can always use more sugar if you prefer a sweeter strawberry puree. You can substitute here with honey, brown sugar, coconut sugar or maple syrup.
- Lemon juice– Lemon juice strengthens and brightens up the delicious flavor of our strawberry puree. It also balances the flavors so our syrup isn’t way too sweet. This is an optional ingredient.
- Heavy cream- I love adding a little heavy cream just to add to the richness of this sweet treat. It’s a delicious way to make our fresh Korean strawberry milk even creamier. This is an optional ingredient too.
- Milk- Ah, a good old cup of milk. I prefer using dairy whole milk here. You can substitute with any dairy-free milk of your choice such as full-fat coconut milk (homemade coconut milk sounds incredible too!), almond milk (I’ve heard almond milk works well here), oat milk, soy milk or any non-dairy milk alternatives you prefer. This popular Korean drink will always taste the absolute best.

RECIPE & DIET VARIATIONS YOU CAN TRY
When a recipe is as delicious as this, it’s so much fun to try different variations to see what else can work with it!
Here are a few different delicious ways you can try to play around with this sweet strawberry milk:
- No strawberry season for fresh strawberries? No worries! The best part is you can use frozen strawberries instead of fresh strawberries to make this Korean-style strawberry milk.
- You can increase or decrease the amount of sugar added when making your fresh strawberry syrup without artificial flavors depending on how sweet you want your drink to be. The amount of sugar can be adjusted according to your preference.
- So you can make this refreshing glass of strawberry milk two ways. You can make it like I did by making some fresh strawberry syrup over the stove. Or you can make some macerated strawberries. Just add the given amount of sugar to your bowl of chopped fresh strawberries, mix well and wait a little. Mash them a bit if you want (not too much, we don’t want our strawberries becoming mushy) and use once the sugar has dissolved and your small pieces of strawberry have softened and released their juices. Then go ahead and make this drink as usual ❤.
- You don’t have to stick to only white sugar. You can use brown sugar, honey or even maple syrup.
- You can also use any type of milk you prefer. I’ve used dairy whole milk here but you can substitute any cup ofmilk you prefer such as skim milk or even any dairy-free milk of your choice such as full-fat coconut milk (I’ve heard homemade coconut milk tastes great too!), almond milk, oat milk, soy milk or any non-dairy milk alternatives you prefer. The thicker and creamier the milk, the better.
- Add as much strawberry syrup as you want. Sometimes I love this drink super syrupy and sometimes I prefer just a little sweetness. It’s all up to you. You can fill it up with lots of chopped strawberries too for more strawberry fun (strawberry recipes are the best!).
- You can turn this into a 3 ingredient Korean strawberry milk too by skipping out on the heavy cream and lemon juice. The drink will still be super yum! You’ll be like whoaaa when you take a sip of this easy 3-ingredient Korean strawberry milk recipe.
- One of the many ways I enjoy this popular beverage is– I wait until the strawberry sauce is cooled down but still just a little warm (not room temperature yet). I then go ahead and make the drink. This way, the milk is cold with dollops of warm strawberry sauce with every sip. Yum!
- Go ahead and add in some more natural ingredients such as other fresh fruits (whatever are your favorite fruits!) like banana, mango, peach, pineapple, cherry or maybe even other berries such as blueberries, blackberries, mulberries, raspberries for some berry fun.
- To make some vegan Korean strawberry milk, skip out on the heavy cream (or use a vegan alternative you prefer). Use maple syrup or coconut sugar instead of white sugar and use a dairy-free milk of your choice such as full-fat coconut milk (you can try making some homemade coconut milk too!), almond milk, soy milk, oat milk or any non-dairy milk alternatives you prefer. Also make sure your lemons are not waxed.
- You can make some actual Korean strawberry milk tea by adding some black tea in (Hey, looking for a delicious tea recipe? Check out our Easy Japanese Royal Milk Tea Recipe: 3 ingredients!). Or you can add some coffee too!
- You can also add a drop or two of vanilla extract to this Korean style strawberry milk for a delicious vanilla strawberry flavor!
- You can add a spoon of condensed milk too for some added thickness, richness and sweetness!
- You can also add some yogurt or Greek yogurt to your drink for a touch of tang as well. It goes really well with the sweet thick pureed strawberries. That delicious balance of sweet and tart is wonderful.
Note- If you think you have an ingredient that you feel is suitable as a substitute for a certain ingredient in this recipe, according to your dietary preference, you can use it and let us know how it works as a substitute in the comments below. I’ll then add it in as an adaptation suggestion here. This will help so many others with the same diet preference as yours.
HOW TO MAKE KOREAN STRAWBERRY MILK [Step-by-Step Instructions with Photos]
For exact ingredient measurements and instructions without photos of this quick recipe, please scroll down to the Recipe Card.
Please keep in mind that I go into lots of detail in all my recipes so you get to know all the super important tips and tricks when it comes to making a particular recipe. I always want you to make the BEST of whatever you’re cooking ❤.
STEP 1: WASH & CHOP YOUR STRAWBERRIES
Wash your strawberries before making this fresh strawberry milk.
I like giving my strawberries a good wash and then letting them soak in some water and baking soda for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Then, I drain the water and give the strawberries a good wash once again to wash away the baking soda.
From your 1 pound of strawberries, go ahead and set aside about 4 to 5 strawberries. We are saving these strawberries to chop up and top our drink with at the end.
Now, chop your strawberries into small pieces. This is what I prefer.
You can cut your strawberry into even smaller pieces if you like, but make sure the pieces aren’t too small. The fun in this recipe is with those juicy bits of strawberry.
You can cut your strawberry into large chunks too but it’ll be difficult to get them into the straw as you sip on your drink.
STEP 2: MAKE THE HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY SYRUP
Add your chopped strawberries into a saucepan.
Add sugar.
And lemon juice.
Give it a gentle mix…
Now, cook over medium heat until the strawberry mixture comes to a boil, while gently stirring. This may take about 4 to 5 minutes.
Then reduce the heat from medium heat to low heat and continue cooking and gently stirring the strawberry mixture until it turns syrupy and just a little thick. This will take about 10 minutes.
And now turn the heat off.
Don’t worry if your strawberry mixture isn’t too thick. It’ll continue to thicken up as it cools down plus we don’t want it to be too thick.
You can always cook it more if you want it thicker but that slightly thick slightly syrupy texture is what I prefer and feel goes best with this drink.
Set your homemade strawberry syrup aside and wait for it to reach room temperature.
While your homemade strawberry syrup reaches room temperature, you can go ahead and chop those 4 to 5 strawberries we set aside at the very beginning.
We will be topping our drinks up with these strawberries so I suggest you chop them into small chunks so they can fit through a regular or large straw (depending on what straw you’re using!).
STEP 3: MAKE YOUR KOREAN-STYLE STRAWBERRY MILK
Take a tall glass and add about 2 to 3 tablespoons of your homemade strawberry syrup to the bottom of the glass.
You can turn and roll your glass a little to get the strawberry syrup to cover the sides of your tall glass. This will give it that pretty pink cloud drink effect ❤.
Now add a few ice cubes, this can be adjusted according to your preference especially on a hot summer day.
Pour in the heavy cream.
And now pour in the milk.
Top your drink up with those fresh strawberry chunks we cut in the end of Step 2.
Place a straw in and take a nice long sip.
How refreshing is that huh 😍?
I love sipping on my Korean style strawberry milk this way in the beginning so I get that thick syrupy sauce, creamy milk and chunks of strawberries (both fresh and syrupy) with every sip.
After a while, I mix everything together, turning it into a turning pretty pink drink.
It’s delicious in every way and I hope you love it.

TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST KOREAN STRAWBERRY MILK RECIPE EVERY SINGLE
You’ve probably gone through the instructions already so you know how easy it is to make this popular beverage.
But hey, here are a few tips to keep in mind when you’re making this super simple recipe to make things even easier…
- It’s always best to use fresh strawberries that are sweet and of the best quality but hey, don’t worry if your strawberries aren’t sweet enough. The process of making our homemade strawberry syrup will help bring all those sugars out and will make a delicious thick sweet syrup with the help of your strawberries. My point is, try and get fresh strawberries of really good quality but don’t worry if they turn out bland. You can still make this recipe and everything will still taste incredible (even better than store-bought strawberry milk).
- Don’t forget to wash your strawberries before making this Korean strawberry milk drink recipe. I prefer giving my strawberries a good wash and then letting them soak in some water and baking soda for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then, I drain the water and give the strawberries a good wash once again to wash away the baking soda.
- I prefer my strawberries cut into small pieces (both in the syrup as well as topped) so I can enjoy that juiciness with every sip. Korean strawberry milk is supposed to be that way too. I don’t prefer my strawberries to be cut into very tiny pieces, mashed or completely blended because I feel that takes away the whole fun of enjoying those strawberry chunks. It’s all personal preference but I suggest you cut your strawberries this way too to enjoy that delicious texture and incredible flavors of this drink.
- If you’re running short on time, an easy way to make things faster is by using a food processor to chop up your strawberries. A food processor can be pretty handy here.
- You can increase or decrease the amount of sugar added when making your fresh strawberry syrup depending on how sweet you want your Korean strawberry milk drink to be. The sugar level is up to you.
- Please don’t forget to regularly stir your pureed strawberries over the stove. We don’t want the sugar burning..
- Please wait until your strawberry puree has cooled down to room temperature before making your homemade strawberry milk. A really hot strawberry puree may curdle your milk and will make your ice cubes melt super fast too giving you a lukewarm curdled drink. You can wait until your strawberry puree is just a little lukewarm to get that delicious warm syrup and cold milk flavor BUT please don’t ever mix super hot syrup and milk.
- I don’t suggest you make this drink and leave it for another day. This homemade strawberry milk is best had fresh and on the same day for that fresh strawberry flavor and absolute deliciousness (the kind you’d find in real Korean cafes!).
- I suggest you use a bigger wider straw (such as a bubble tea straw) when sipping on your fresh strawberry milk. That’s because the strawberry syrup has small syrupy pieces of strawberry in it and we top our drink with fresh chunks of strawberries too. A larger straw will help us enjoy this drink with all those chunks of strawberries without any hassle.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS FOR THIS KOREAN STRAWBERRY MILK RECIPE
This is such a delicious sweet drink and while it’s traditionally served in Korean cafes the way we’ve given in the instructions (homemade strawberry syrup at the bottom and topped with fresh strawberries cut into small pieces), there’s so much more you can do!
Here are a few suggestions…
- Go ahead and serve this Korean strawberry latte recipe in beautiful tall glasses. You can see the beauty of this drink through transparent tall glasses 😍.
- One of the many ways I enjoy this popular beverage is- I wait until the strawberry sauce is cooled down but still just a little warm. I then go ahead and make this sweet strawberry milk. This way, the milk is cold with dollops of warm strawberry syrupy goodness with every sip. Yum!
- You can also go ahead and wait until your homemade strawberry syrup cools down, then pop it into the refrigerator to make it even colder. Once it’s cold, you can go ahead and make your drink so everything is super cold, giving you a refreshing drink.
- if you’re serving this fresh strawberry milk the way I’ve given in the instructions (this is the way it’s served in Korean cafes), you can also go ahead and slice a strawberry in the middle (not completely) or take a slice of a strawberry and do the same. Then place it over the rim of the tall glasses you’re serving this drink in and serve! It adds to the whole strawberry aesthetic and mood.
- You can also froth your milk before pouring it into the strawberry puree to get some delicious creamy frothy milk foam on top.
- Go ahead and top your Korean style strawberry milk with some whipped cream for an added creaminess and airy fun. Can anything get better than strawberries and whipped cream? You can also top it up with some whipped chocolate such as this Dalgona Whipped Chocolate Recipe.
- You can add a nutty crunch to this delicious beverage and top it up with some finely chopped dry fruit such as walnuts, almonds, cashews… whatever you prefer.
- You can add a scoop of ice cream to your homemade Korean strawberry milk for some indulgence, making something like a Korean strawberry milkshake. You can add some vanilla ice cream or whatever flavor you prefer.
- You can also add caramel syrup or even chocolate syrup to your homemade strawberry milk. Caramel syrup will make your sweet drink even sweeter with a caramelly flavor while chocolate syrup will work super well with those fresh real strawberries.
- Turn it into a cozy double treat! You can serve or pair your Korean-style strawberry milk with this 3 Ingredient Flourless Chocolate Cake Recipe (strawberries and chocolate, can it get any better?) or even this Easy 3 Ingredient Yogurt Cake Recipe (for a delicious refreshing tang).
- Go ahead and turn this delicious strawberries in milk drink into bubble tea! Add some chewy tapioca pearls in and enjoy your Korean strawberry bubble tea. That texture of the syrupy strawberries along with fresh strawberries and boba pearls will be so good, you’ll want to have this bubble tea over and over again.
- You can add small cubes of strawberry jello too to this popular Korean drink. Enjoy that incredible texture and extra burst of strawberry flavor. You can use any other flavor jelly cubes you prefer too such as the coffee jelly from our Homemade Coffee Jello Recipe with Condensed Milk Cream making it the perfect dessert drink!

Instructions
- WASH AND CHOP YOUR STRAWBERRIESGo ahead and wash your fresh strawberries before making this fresh strawberry milk.I like washing my strawberries really well and then letting them soak in some water and baking soda for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then I drain the water and give the strawberries another good wash to wash away the baking soda. Now from your 1 lb or 454 gms fresh strawberries, set aside about 4 to 5 strawberries. We are saving these strawberries to chop up into smaller pieces and top our strawberry latte with at the end. We’ll come back to these strawberries later. Now, chop the rest of your strawberries into small pieces for the strawberry syrup.I prefer small pieces but you can cut your strawberries into even smaller pieces if you prefer. Just make sure the pieces aren’t too small. The best part in this recipe is those juicy bits of strawberry lending all that delicious fresh strawberry flavor and gentle bite with every sip.You can cut your strawberry into large chunks as well but they won’t fit in the straw as you sip on your drink.
- MAKE THE HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY SYRUPAdd your chopped fresh strawberries to a saucepan. Now add ⅓ cup or 70 gms sugar. And 1 tsp lemon juice.Mix everything gently and cook over medium heat until the strawberry mixture comes to a boil, while gently stirring. This may take about 4 to 5 minutes. Then reduce the heat from medium heat to low and continue cooking and gently stirring the strawberry mixture until it turns syrupy and just a little thick. This may take about 10 minutes. Switch off the heat.Don’t worry if your strawberry mixture isn’t too thick. It will continue to thicken up as it cools. And hey, we don’t want it to be too thick either. You can always cook it a little more if you want it to be thicker but that slightly thick slightly syrupy texture is what I feel goes best with this drink. Now set your homemade strawberry syrup aside and wait for it to cool and reach room temperature. While your homemade strawberry syrup cools, go ahead and chop those 4 to 5 fresh strawberries we set aside at the very beginning. We will be topping our drinks up with these fresh strawberries so I suggest you cut them into small chunks (not too small, just enough to have a bite) so they can fit through a regular or large straw (depending on the straw you’re using).
- MAKE YOUR KOREAN-STYLE STRAWBERRY MILKTake a tall glass and add about 2 to 3 tablespoons of your homemade strawberry puree. You can turn your glass a bit and roll it to get the strawberry syrup to cover its sides. This will give it that gorgeous pink cloud drink effect ❤.Now add a few ice cubes.Pour in 1 tbsp heavy cream per glass. And pour in 1 cup or 240 ml milk per glass. And now top your drink up with those fresh strawberry chunks we chopped in Step 2.Now place a straw in and take a nice long sip (I prefer using a bigger wider straw so all the chunks of strawberries fit, the kind we get with bubble tea). How refreshing is that hmm 💖?I love sipping on my Korean style strawberry milk this way in the beginning so I get that thick syrupy strawberry puree, cold creamy milk and chunks of fresh strawberries (both fresh and syrupy) with every sip. After a while, I stir the drink and mix everything together. It’s delicious every way and I hope you love it too!
Notes ✍🏼
- It’s always best to use sweet fresh strawberries of the best quality for that depth of flavor but hey, don’t worry if your strawberries aren’t sweet enough. Making our homemade strawberry puree will bring all those sugars out and will make a delicious thick sweet syrup.
- Please don’t forget to wash your fresh strawberries before making this popular drink.
- It’s all personal preference but I suggest you cut your fresh strawberries into small pieces (just enough to have a bite, not too small) to enjoy the delicious texture and incredible flavors of this delicious beverage.
- Running low on time or just aren’t in the mood? An easy way to speed things up is by using a food processor to chop up your fresh strawberries. A food processor can be pretty useful here.
- Don’t forget to regularly gently stir your pureed strawberries over the stove. We don’t want the sugar burning.
- Wait until your strawberry puree has cooled down before making your homemade Korean strawberry milk. Really hot strawberry puree may curdle your milk and make your ice cubes melt super fast giving you a lukewarm curdled drink. You can wait until your strawberry puree is just a little warm to get that incredible warm syrup and cold milk flavor BUT no mixing super hot syrup and milk ever.
- I suggest you have this homemade strawberry milk the same day you make it. This strawberry latte is best had fresh on the same day for that fresh strawberry flavor (the kind you’d find in real Korean cafes!).
- Try and use a bigger straw if you can (such as a bubble tea straw) when sipping on this sweet drink. That’s because the strawberry syrup has small syrupy pieces of strawberry in it and we top our drink with chunks of strawberries too. A larger straw will help us enjoy this drink with all those chunks of strawberries without any problem.
- No strawberry season for fresh strawberries? That’s okay! You can use frozen strawberries too to make this Korean-style strawberry milk 💃🏻.
- You can increase or decrease the amount of sugar added when making your fresh strawberry syrup depending on how sweet you want your homemade Korean strawberry milk drink to be. The sugar level is up to you.
- You can make this refreshing glass of strawberry milk in two ways. You can make it like I did by making some fresh strawberry syrup over the stove. Or you can make some macerated strawberries. Just add the sugar to your bowl of chopped strawberries, gently mix and wait a little. Go ahead and use once the sugar has dissolved and your small pieces of strawberry have softened and released their juices. Then go ahead and make this tasty beverage as usual ❤.
- You can use brown sugar, honey or even maple syrup instead of white sugar here to make this sweet treat.
- You can use a different kind of milk as well. I’ve used dairy whole milk here but you can use skim milk or even any dairy-free milk of your choice such as full-fat coconut milk (I’ve heard homemade coconut milk tastes great too!), almond milk, oat milk, soy milk or any non-dairy milk alternatives you like.
- Add as much strawberry syrup as you want to your homemade strawberry milk. I sometimes love this drink super syrupy and sometimes I prefer just a little, not too much. It’s all personal preference. You can fill it up with lots of chopped strawberries too for some more fresh strawberry flavor.
- You can turn this into a 3 ingredient Korean strawberry milk too by skipping out on the heavy cream and lemon juice. You’ll be like whoaaa when you take a sip of this easy 3-ingredient Korean strawberry milk recipe ❤. It’ll still be that delicious with only 3 simple ingredients.
- One of the many ways I enjoy this strawberry milk latte– I wait until the strawberry sauce is cool but still just a little warm. I then make the drink. This way, the milk is cold with dollops of warm strawberry sauce with every sip. Yum ❤!
- Add in some other fresh fruits (whatever are your favorite fruits!) such as banana, mango, peach, pineapple, cherry or maybe even other berries such as blueberries, blackberries, mulberries or raspberries for some berry fun.
- To make some vegan Korean strawberry milk, skip out on the heavy cream (or use a vegan alternative you like). Use maple syrup or coconut sugar instead of white sugar and use a dairy-free milk of your choice such as full-fat coconut milk (you can try making some homemade coconut milk too!), soy milk, almond milk, oat milk or any non-dairy milk alternatives you prefer. Also make sure your lemons are not waxed.
- You can also make some Korean strawberry milk tea by adding some black tea to your homemade Korean strawberry milk. Or you can add some coffee too!
- You can also add a drop or two of vanilla extract to this homemade strawberry milk for a delicious vanilla strawberry flavor!
- You can also add a spoon of sweetened condensed milk for some added thickness, richness and sweetness.
- You can add some yogurt or Greek yogurt to your drink for a touch of tang too. It goes really well with that fresh strawberry flavor. It gives this drink that delicious balance of sweet and tart.
